103 vs 110
« on: January 20, 2017, 09:24:59 AM »

I have a friend with a 2011 103 RGU.  He and I discuss the issues with the 110.

Lifters, crank run out build issues, etc.

Does the 103 not  suffer these same problems?. Is the bottom end built differently or do they share the same parts?

Same bottom end and same lifters - at least until 2013 CVO 110s when they went to the SE lifters.  But the 110 has bigger jugs of course and most importantly much bigger valves and much heavier valve springs which I think most all believe contribute mightily to the horrific rate of premature valve train failure on the 110s.  The 103s have not been totally exempt but they do seem to have fared better than the 110s.

the lifter & valve spring problems are fixed easily enough,if thinking about getting fairly aggressive with a build, the lower end should also be addressed on a 103" or 110" build
