I have a detachable windshield on the Vrod.  It helps with wind (some), but it is terrible to ride with particularly at night.  The orange odometer light glares terribly and the top of the windshield is above my line of vision and I have to look through it.  Anyone know how do you determine the right height?  Anyone have one on their Vrod that they like?

    I am not sure of any standard measurement to determine correct height for the rider.  For the most part you have to ride with what is most comfortable for you.  Normally, however your line of sight should be over the windshield and not through the windshield.  On a side note do you have a pic of your bike with the detach windsheild on.  My wife is looking for one for her bike for longer trips.  She doesnt like a windshield for day to day riding but it is a life saver on the highway.  She is only 5' 3" so she may have the same problem you are having with yours but she wants something she can take off quickly when she gets to where she is going.

Hey V, I've always found that line of sight just over the top of the windshield is best....that way you never have to look thru glare, rain drops, bugs, whatever, but the wind flow is still on the top of your head and not in eyes.  Be sure and sit at your regular riding posture (slouched, straight back, whatever) when you measure the eye level before trimming the top of the shield.  You can just mark the level w/ a marker and take it down to a local glass shop and they'll cut and polish it for you.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  spyder

      On a side note do you have a pic of your bike with the detach windsheild on.  My wife is looking for one for her bike for longer trips.  She doesnt like a windshield for day to day riding but it is a life saver on the highway.  She is only 5' 3" so she may have the same problem you are having with yours but she wants something she can take off quickly when she gets to where she is going.

I don't but can fix that in a matter of minutes (when it's completely daylight) with my camera phone.  I'll also see if I can find the part number.  I prefer the bike naked as well but I have never found any glasses or goggles that fit well and the wind kills my eyes on longer rides.  I put it on last night to ride to Atlanta.  I regretted the decision all the way home with the glare.      I'm 5'5" but I have long legs with a really short torso.  So I don't sit as high as most people my height.  Sucks, but the flip-side is I have a 32" inseam and can sit on any bike with my feet flat on the ground.  As MrsWeCVO pointed out in the past, I have a much easier and cheaper problem to fix!

As I understand it, the instructions are explicit in that the CVO can keep the stock location of the turn signals.

As always, I would confirm with the dealer, prior to assuming this to be correct.

In the fall of 2005 I had an opportunity to take a 05 VRSCA for a spin. The machine was equipped with a large H-D touring windshield; I’m sorry but I don’t know the windshield’s part number. During the ride I took the machine to 110 mph for a short time. The thing that I remember most about the ride was how well the windshield worked at triple digit speeds. I was wearing a cloth hat and was thoroughly amazed that it stayed on.

It looks like the difference between the early 57105-02A and the new 57211-05 is new the new windshield uses a removable mount and the early piece, (obsolete) came with a mount that remained on the motorcycle when the windshield is removed. This change was made in the 2006 model year.

The 07 accessory catalog p26, #B covers the application of this windshield from 02 through 07. The catalog doesn’t exclude the SE models, but it doesn’t include them either. I’ll bet 50 cents that the 57211-05 will fit the 06 VRSCSE2, but I would still ask the local Dealer to confirm the application prior to pulling the trigger on this piece.

It is not uncommon to see lexan windshields trimmed to the appropriate height for custom applications. If I were considering a chop job on a windshield like this, I would try to find a method to space myself up out of the saddle the approximate amount that I needed to remove. This should give you some sense of how the windshield will perform at that relative height.

If you are thinking about trimming a lexan windshield, consider making a template of the top portion of the windshield so the original profile can be applied to the modified windshield.

The windshield kit includes pieces to relocate the front turn signals to the lower fork bracket. The obsolete version of this windshield relocated the turn signals to a standoff on the lower windshield mount, which looked kind of cheesy.

Helen...you might also want to check out WindVest...they make a nice, easily removeable windshield...that's what I'm leaning towards, as no relocating the turn signals is required.

I had the touring windshield on my V-Rod and loved it.  They are very easy to cut down to the correct height which should be about 1" below your line of site straigt out.  The windshield does tend to start bending at around 200 kph though, but it doesn't break.  Don't go to the sport touring windshield as it is pretty much useless and buffets your hear around.

Another windshield to think about...this guy gets the Windvest windshield and does the engraving on it, and it you want, has LED's that shine from the bottom up...

Does the glare from the lights distract the rider?  Have you installed the windvest yet?  Does it work for the rider?  I rode Sunday afternoon into the evening.  I turned around after six miles and came back to put on the windshield because it was so windy I felt like a drag-chute slowing down the bike.  I HATE THE LOOKS OF THE BIG WINDSHIELD ON THE V!!!  BUT you can't hardly ride long distances without it unless you want to be windburned and beat up from the ride.  I'm convinced the reason crotchrockets are designed to lay down and ride is to keep the rider from being blown off the bike!  In high winds, its all I can do to hold on to the V at speeds above 80mph.  Yet, I find myself riding faster because I want to hurry up and get home with the wind is throwing me around like a rag doll!  Not a good (safe) game plan!!!

I like the sport-shield.  I guess I could learn to ride the Vrod like a GXXR....

Rode the V in to work today...after the storms, we've got low 60's today and clear skies...the new Windvest helps significantly!!!  It ain't a Batwing, but for something as small as it is...very effective.  There's still a bit of air that gets under the front of it and comes up to your chin, but just a "breeze" and not a blast.  Airflow over the top is hitting the top of my full face HJC (my helmet of choice for the V)...what surprised me most is how much of the wind blast is gone from my shoulders and upper body with this little thing.  Definitly takes that "I'm about to be blown loose from the handlebars" feeling away.  I took a couple of pics this morning and will post them tonight.  BY FAR, the best looking windshield I've seen for the SEVROD.  A vast improvement in looks over any of the honkin' things HD offers for the V.  I'm certain that the full touring shield offered by HD is more protection, but this is a good compromise in my opinion.
