Paul Yaffe 10" Monkey Bars

Can you for sure use all the stock cables and wires when changing a 2009 SERG over to the 10" Paul Yaffe monkey bars?

Yes you can and others here on the forum have even gone to the 12" Yaffe bars without changing the stock cables.

PS. Really think about the 12's :2vrolijk_21:

You think you the 12's are better? And why? Thanks for the info.

It's obviously a personal choice. I've just heard it said so many times that a person had just wished they went one size taller. Also, the 12's really aren't that tall, in fact, they are actually just about the perfect height from a comfort point of view. I wanted 13's, but Yaffe doesn't make that size, so I just rounded up to the 14's for "The Look". Most the guy's I ride with are running the 16's, which I thought were just too tall for me. Just my opinion, but the 10's just look to short. Whatever you decide is all good, because it would be boring if all our bikes looked the same :2vrolijk_21: Attached is a picture of my wife sitting on the SERG with the 14's and she's 5'9. This will give you a perspective of handlebar height relative to shoulder and arm position. Gook luck with your decision. Jim

Jim, very nice......and I like the bike also :javascript:void(0);  Have you noticed any trade offs due to the 14" bars, i.e. handling, long ride arm fatigue, etc?  Thanks.

The immediate trade off is the bike now has the "Cool Factor" :2vrolijk_21: No long rides yet due to the unusually wet weather, but I'll be riding with JCZ tomorrow to the San Francisco Bay Area to "hd-dude" shop to swap brake calipers. I'm guessing it's about a 250 mile round trip, so I'll know more this weekend.

Cancelled due to the rain and family obligations. I scored points with the family, but a lengthy ride was placed on the back burner. Not to worry....I average about a 1000+ miles a month, so stay tuned. It won't be long.  :orange: Jim

10" Paul Yaffee Monkey Bar ( but there will be problems with the handcontrols , because of the hydraulic clutch , the unit is a bit too long - i was told ) . Is this correct ? You have to use a dremel to make it fit .

@ Jim Glide ,
Could you please post a pic with the ape when the fork is extreme right or left ( not straight on , so that one could see where the grips are in comparison to the windshield , i guess one could get problems when using a tall shield , is this correct ? )

If the bars in that picture are the 10" ones then I think they look pretty cool! I an still debating about going to the 12's though.  Any pictures of the 12's. It appears we have photos of 10's and 14's

sorry I didn't understand. Are these 10" bars and they don't bolt on without modifying something? They look bigger tthan 10".

I checked again and this is a Paul Yaffee OEM Monkey Bar from http://www.custom-chrome-europe.com/cce_about.html?&L=1 and they sell a 9" version with 32" wide , the owner of the orange SERG from the pic told me that he had to modify something with a dremel because the hand-control-units are too tall ( the reason seems to be the hydraulic clutch - i guess that this problem will only appear with this 9" 32" wide bar , because the Paul Yaffee site shows a 33" wide at the 10" , maybe the horizontal part of the bar where the handcontrols will be mounted is a little bit longer at the higher Monkeys )

The pic below from the Paul Yaffee site should be the 10"

When you check the details of the two pics then you will see that the Paul Yaffee site pic shows a bike without hydraulic clutch .
If you look at the SERG pic then you will see that the " hydraulic clutch tank "at the left side is very near at the point of the bar where it runs a little bit up , before the bar goes straight down .
Maybe he had to dremel-away a little bit material of the bar to be able to move the handcontrol-unit inside or onto the bar .

Please report about the fit when mounted (left side clutch-fluid-housing contacting the bar ?), and the need of the change of the cable or lines .

AFAIK, the only place to get the bars is directly from Paul Yaffe's Bagger Nation.

The bars that fit the SERG are the OEM Monkey bars.  The only size listed is 10", but if you call, they will make them any size you want for the same price. ($375)

It takes 3 weeks to make them in other sizes.

My dealer just phoned and said they cannot use the stock clutch and brake lines to install the 10" monkey bars on my 2009. Any feedback from anyone?  Everything I have read said you can use the stock. I hate to have to buy when nobody else has had to. Any help??

Even the 12" Paul Yaffee Monkey could be used with the stock cables .

I agree, sounds like they want more $$$$$. I used all stock cables and wires on mine with the 10"s. Took just under 3 hrs start to finish.

Hey good news, my dealer just phoned and said with some rerouting of the lines they were able to use the stock
SERG lines with the 10" bars. I am happy that they kept messing with it and got it the way everybody said would work! Thanks for all the posts saying it would work.

These bars are too sexy to resist.....may place my order now for the 10's to put myself on the waiting list-don't need them for another month anyhow.

BTW, Phats Performance offer $10.00 off msrp- not much, I know, but I don't think anyone else sells them for much of a discount anyways. Great guys to deal with- I've ordered a bunch of stuff from them in the past for my Warrior. :2vrolijk_21:

No harm to order early-Phats never charges you until the item ships.

I couldn't agree more  :2vrolijk_21: These bars definitely will give your bike Attitude!!! :carrot:
I've gotten more compliments on my bike since I installed the PY handlebars. I think they are the best looking handlebars out there. I hope you enjoy your new handlebars as much as I have.

Does anybody recognized a kind of wobble or extraordinaire vibration with the Paul Yaffee when driving , especially at high speeds ?

Only have an hour of time with mine on the bike, but I really like the feel of them. Did not change the ride any that I could tell.

Jim

@Jim :
Could you please meassure the wide of your 14" PY from left side end of grip straight to the right side end of grip , Paul Yaffes site only shows the 15" Ape with a 37" wide .
Paul Yaffe did ream out the right side of your Ape for the heat demon ( when i remember correctly ) , is there enough material left that this right side is stably ? Do you see any problems with the fact that this right side end of the handlebar is thinner ?
What did you pay for this reamed out 14" black one ?  (pm sent)
