Title: Boom will not turn on
Post by: Chief2505 on November 07, 2016, 02:45:44 PM
I have a 2016 CVO limited that I am just loving! I rode Saturday afternoon and the radio worked great! I have a 16G jump drive plugged into the USB cable in the little radio box.

Sunday afternoon I went for a ride and the radio would do nothing other than show me Boom Audio on the screen. I turned the bike off and back on 3 times and nothing changed. I rode for 2.5 miles with no radio but I was chilly so I stopped to put my chaps on. I started the bike back up and was on my merry way thinking I would not have any tunes today when about 1 mile later it started playing! Started playing the same song at the exact spot it was at when I turned the bike off on Saturday afternoon. Radio worked perfect the rest of the day.

I have the latest 9.12.2 or something like that update. Unless there was another update since September 1, 2016.

Any suggestions?

The latest update 1.20.2 was taken off the download site by the MoCo because of issues similar to what you are describing. Reinstall the 1.20.1 software until they get the issues fixed.

Yes is a known issue with the 1.20.2 update.  1.20.1 is best for now until they get .2 fixed.

That is strange that it has been ok since I bought the bike the first of September and just all of a sudden started acting up. 3,000 miles with no trouble.

Mine did this 1 time and it has never happened again. Very weird and frustrating lol.

Suggestion:

Remove left side bag and side cover.  Locate main fuse under your left side side cover. Turn your ignition switch to on and then pull the main fuse.  Turn ignition switch off.  Let the bike sit for 15 to 20 seconds.  Insert fuse.  Start bike and test system. This is essentially a reboot of your bike's BCM.

I believe that fault was why Harley removed the 1.20.2 download. I experienced the same as you and re-flashed back to 1.20.1 and all is now happy. Greg recommends the best reboot as well, and it helps, but the 1.20.2 is flawed and will come back with the Black Screen as we call it.

Wow I can't believe 2yrs later the infotainment system is still having issues.  My 2014 has had issues turning on after stopping for gas since it was new.  I was told by a service director at Harley the other day that it was most likely caused by a low battery.  I had this same thing happen on my trip a couple of weeks ago. I think I am on the latest release 1.20.2 pretty aggravating that talking to harley customer care about radio issues that I wasn't told to load 1.20.1 back.  When was 1.20.2 pulled from the site?

.2 was pulled about 2 weeks ago.  Had problems when my dealer downloaded it, they removed it & put .1 back on - no more problems.

Just for the record mine worked fine with .2 for about 3 or 4 weeks. We got ready to for long weekend trip and system would not boot after first gas stop. I had .1 with me on thumb drive and went back to it and has worked great since.

Had the black screen again last Friday.  No sound, no light.  Turned the bike off/on a few times.  Nothing.  Rode to the dealer so they could see it.  Tried off/on - nothing.  Suggested pulling the maxi fuse.  Fired the bike up to move it inside - then screen worked fine. No issues at all.

Have had this happen once before - black screen - but that time after I turned the bike off the screen came back up ok.  It's a real shame a bike that has given me no problems other than this has this screen issue as a recurring intermittent problem. About once a week I get the "No media found" message while the unit is playing an MP3.  Hit fast forward or reverse, screen reverts to info on what song is playing.

It vexes me.

The only time I had an issue with this is in a low battery condition, as mentioned in an earlier post (reply 7) new battery and no issue since. I always tender it when not riding on a regular basis.

Bike is always on a tender when not riding, battery was ok.
