Post by: KID ROCK on April 05, 2015, 11:04:47 PM
Intermittent problem.Throttle failed well riding once. After I wash it some times it fails too.I do reset the ecm by shuting it on and off four times.
Cruise button don't work right away got to hit it a couple of times.
Bike gets a high idle sometimes got to reset ecm too.
I did change the grips on it maybe I got a throttle sensor problem now not sure.

any ideas  boys

Since you changed grips, check the throttle position sender.  Also check the connector and wires to the throttle body behind the air cleaner.  Many of the 09s had melted wires or connectors there.  If no obvious damage, disconnect, clean and apply dielectric grease to the connector.  Hope this helps.

I would check for codes first,  the TGS will throw a code pretty quickly if voltages arent in range.
It is also not uncommon for the connection to the throttle body to get wet and act up. Pretty easy to unplug this connection and take a look.

Good luck.

Lots of issues with early model year electronic throttle control systems, including the 2009.  Connector pin fretting was a big one, there is a tech tip about that issue.  The other suggestions you've received are excellent as well.  If this problem only started right after the grip change, I would go back and check that first.  The connector at the throttle body is the one with the issues with the terminal pins, and would be the next place to check.
