Rear Tire Suggestions/opinions
« on: February 27, 2017, 03:33:29 PM »

I am looking for suggestions and opinions on what type of tire to get.  My stock tire needs replaced and I am unsure what I want to get.  I want a tire that has good traction and corners well, but is also good for 2 up riding.  What tire is everyone running?

I'm pretty pleased with the Dunlop American elite.  much cheaper than the stocker, and so far with 10,000 miles on it, no sign of cupping, and plenty of tread left.  though, I do have to say I did get 20k out of the stock tire as well.  the ae has the same load rating as the stocker, but I have no personal experience with riding two up.  no problems with riding in the rain.

If you're wanting better traction and cornering you'll need to go to a softer compound like Metzler.  However, the trade off for a softer compound rubber is that you'll get less mileage out of it.

I ride with the stock OEM whens I riding with the boys in the twisties or riding two up and loaded for the long haul ride.  It has served me well and it has great traction for a heavy bagger.  It ain't broke so I don't have to fix it.  :2vrolijk_21:

I went with Michelins this last time and really like them overall.  Seem to be wearing well and evenly.  Good combination of performance and mileage.  I don't push them hard nor ride in the rain very often though.

I have tried various tires over the years and found I like the American Elite the best. Good traction, cornering, good wear charactoristicts, reasonable cost.  Most of my riding is done two up and I get ~ 16k on the rear tire

Have to agree with the other posts on the Elites. 2up 99% of the time and no problems
