Gas tank protection
« on: May 02, 2013, 08:32:56 PM »

On my bike I have what appears to be some rub marks at the base of the gas tank near where it meets the seat. It's almost a cloudy type of look. In talking to my dealer he said it should be buffed out. But then this will just happen again. A friend mentioned a clear film type of protector that can be used.

Is any one familiar with this?

Or have an alternative solution?

Thanks

Motorcycle Armor is the way to go.  I have it on my tank.  It  does the job and is almost invisible.

Noticed that Motorcycle Armor instructions say that paint must have clear coat or it might damage any special paint if you we're to remove it later.  Anyone know if CVO's have clear coat over the custom paint and pinsriping?

Seems like it would be hard to install on the tank near the seat clean looking

Or 2-tone for that matter. Highly visible lines on my front fender.

The factory paint jobs and the CVO paint jobs are all base/clear to the best of my knowledge.  Even the "denim" flat looking paint jobs have a low gloss clear coat.  I think what the Motorcycle Armor folks are trying to say is you shouldn't install their product on non-factory paint stripes or that nice Krylon rattle can DIY repair job.

Similar material is factory installed on various parts of the bikes btw.  Like the fenders under the seats, top of the side covers where the seat might rub, etc.  I've removed and replaced some of this stuff after several years and haven't had a problem with it damaging OEM paint yet.
