Kalamazoo Bound - Labor Day Week Long Trip (NM to MI)
« on: August 29, 2010, 05:29:59 PM »

Gonna be taking my '11 FLTRUSE on its first extended vogage from Albuquerque, NM to Kalamazoo, MI to visit family. I'm really looking forward to 9 days on the road with this new CVO.

Here's my planned route, most of which is slab unfortunately for times sake. Will be trying to color in a few extra states along the way. Let me know if you have any suggestions that don't take me too far of course.

Regards,
Simon

There are lots of nice rides in MI.  I was born in Battle Creek and raised there.  Left home at 18 and never moved back to MI, Taxes are way to high.

Michigan has great areas to ride, the Mackinaw bridge is an awesome ride, stayed at the Kalamazoo house during a street rod run years ago.  You did good staying out of Detroit and avoiding I75, have a safe trip.

Simon (aka DesertHOG) and his bike at the IHOP (home of the one legged servers) (should have taken him to Jimmy's Egg which is prob the best breafast house in OKC) this pic taken just after finishing breakfast about to hit the road going east. Nice looking bike is one of those 2011's he is proud and should be.

Took a side trip down to the bombing memorial in Oklahoma City Simon has some pics maybe he will post them and his thoughts later.  Headed out on I-40 eastbound warned him about all the rough spots and LEO hideouts that I am aware of going that way. Shot this pic just before I showed him how quick the green ones are as my 06 (with fresh oil and pipes) blew past him like he was sitting still. Simon is planning on taking a little side trip to Tunica, Mississippi and spending the night there.

I got into Kalamazoo around 10pm Tuesday evening. Only a minor event along the way with my shifter. The set screw holding the shifter shaft to the shifter linkage decided to work its way loose and I had a disconnected shifter for a few miles. This was in Memphis on Monday and I pulled over into the nearby parklot at Bumpus HD. No one was around but I pulled out my toolkit and set up a mini-shop. After whittling on a screwed screw for a while, I was able to get the thread in good enough shape to get the shifter linkage and shaft secured again.

Today I got the fine folks at Perry HD in Kalamazoo to do a proper fix job on it including locktite. Good thing I visited them cause the damn screw was coming loose again. They also helped explain some of the fancy contraptions on this FLTRUSE. So I now have a wired helmet with stereo and GPS navigation wired into my head. Woo Hoo!

I'll have pics and a video uploaded after I get back to home base in 4 or 5 days.
