Doesn't it have the cigarette lighter in it?? It's not like it's an empty hole... just think of it as more chrome showing. ;D

Assuming your lighter socket is the standard size, you could just remove the socket from the bike and fill the hole with a one inch diameter decorative hole plug.  'd00d would prefer chrome I'm sure, but I suppose you could also go with black or even paint one to match.  They are available in plastic and in metal versions from many of the auto parts and accessory places.

If you just don't like the actual lighter element sticking out, you could also replace the lighter socket with a power point socket that has it's own tethered rubber cap.  Just in case you decide you want to run a 12V accessory in the future.  If you decide to go this route, get a water proof marine grade power point.

Harley has a cap you can put in in place of the lighter.  Has the bar and shield on it, and it cost me less than $100.

Not that I'm looking to get one... just have never seen it. You got a P/N?

91844-97 which was the $1 socket cover that comes in the HD 12v supplemental power outlet kit. you would think the MOCO would put these $1 jobs on all the tourers and make the 5% of the people that actually probably use the lighter element purchase it as a $15 accessory!

The auto industry has been doing that for years now.  A smoker's package was an option you could specify on many vehicles, which basically included a cigar lighter element and a mickey mouse ashtray that fit in a cup holder.  I noticed when ordering Momma's new vehicle recently that the smoker package wasn't even listed as an option anymore, you have to buy it as an accessory after the fact.  Fortunately I quit  2.5 years ago.

Considering that H-D usually borrows ideas from the auto industry only after a minimum wait of a decade or two, you'll probably see the lighter on the Touring models go away for the 2030 model.  Hopefully when the MoCo finally eliminates the lighter and just installs a real 12V power point (with a water tight cap), they will locate it up in a more accessible area.  It would be nice to be able to use a short cord on your portable devices, one that doesn't flop around and whip in the wind.

I for one am glad my Road Glide has the cigarette lighter.  It gets used often.

I used mine once just to see if it worked and put it back in. About 100 miles later I felt something hit my left pant leg but didn't notice what hit my leg until the next day cleaning the bike.

I don't think they'll warranty it though. I'll just get one of the 12V plastic caps that push into the hole from my next rental car.

I use the lighter all of the time.  Don't give the MoCo any ideas!

I changed my OEM socket out to the the BMW style socket and now use it to power my heated clothes. I also added a similar BMW style socket in the Tour Trunk to power/recharge other things, i.e. cell phones, MP3 players etc.. (i made a little pigtail jumper with 12V socket). The BMW socket has a retracing cover so they look a lot better then the OEM.    :2vrolijk_21:
