Yet another radio question...
« on: August 03, 2010, 09:51:43 PM »

Apologies if this is not the correct place for this question.

My buddy's got an '07 Ultra, with a radio problem. Seems like I remember hearing about this somewhere, but I'm suffering from CRS.

Anyways, he turns his bike off and the radio stays on, it won't shut off.

Any thoughts?

Well... at least you're living up to you self-proclaimed reputation. ;)

But seriously... the dealership's not open until tomorrow morning, so that's out of the question until 9:00am.
Any other advice that would help, like... this evening?

Have him disconect the battery or pull the fuse.

Ok, seriously. If there is still power going to the radio after the key switch is turned off, the problem lies in the switch itself. Was the bike washed recently? Any rain? I would not recommend removing the key switch without the proper tool. If you do, and the lock turns, it's a pain to get it lined back right, don't ask how I know. There seems to be some sort of a short in that wire providing power. You can pull the 10 amp fuse that controls the radio to see if any other accessories are disabled. You didn't mention if anything was added like a GPS. Best recommendation until a dealership visit would be to pull the Maxi-fuse.

That problem cannot possibly be a "Radio" problem

FYI, the moniker was not self-proclaimed but rather "bestowed" upon me by the Great BB himself.  :D I wear it with pride though.

There is power to the radio all the time.  To back up the clock, hold station information and a few other housekeeping chores.  So I'd not say it's impossible that something isn't going on inside the radio.  Have to have a schematic to know for sure.

I'd pull the fuse for that circuit.  Hopefully that kills it with no more fuss.  Worst case for temporary duty is pulling the maxi-fuse or unhooking the battery.

Yeah, I already told him to pull the maxi-fuse to kill all power till tomorrow. I never looked into this personally, he called me on the phone wanting to borrow my manual, because he had lent his to someone else and, never got it back... Anyways, that's all I know about it right now.

Thanks for the help guys!

don't have a dresser,  but I've never seen a radio that didn't have an on and off button,  simply reach forward and hit the off button. :nixweiss:

When he turns the bike off... the radio stays on. I'm sure you guys are aware of this, but normally, turning the bike off turns everything off. The radio will not turn off.
