What r your thoughts about American Chopper being cancelled?
« on: December 06, 2012, 12:39:36 AM »

I'm glad ... it's been going downhill for a while. It used to be a good show when it first came out, but not now. Sr. trying to push his new restaurant chain & jr. doing advertising & building bicycles now? No wonder it got cancelled, the show isn't about building bikes anymore. I read somewhere they got $25 grand per episode for 10 years so that's over 5 mil just from the show alone. I would love to see them have a new show about modding nothing but baggers ... that would be cool. Hear that Discovery??  ... seems like they make a show about anything now so y not a show about baggers?

It really hasn't been about building bikes since it became jr vs sr as far as I am concerned. It been more about drama and the old man bashing the kid. I lost interest after a few of the sr vs jr episodes. I say good riddance, and yea someone needs to do a custom bagger show!!! Can you say Yaffe??

I'm glad as hell.  Use that time slot for better programming, something different. I think Paully needs to get a taste of the real life. In fact, I'd like to see a 'retake' on both Paul's in 10 years.  We know senior will be in a rocking chair, but I'd like to see how Jr. handles life without easy handouts.  .....   You asked, you got.   :2vrolijk_21:

U guys r right, nobody will miss them ... especially me. Every time I hear jr. say the word innovative I feel like bitch slappin him. I also quit watching long before the whole sr. vs jr. thing started. It would be great to see Zipper's & Fullsac or other reputable speed shops take the teutel's spot. :2vrolijk_21:

I've probably watched every episode thanks to DVR, but I also watch almost anything about motorcycles. I won't miss it now, since it's not really about MC's anymore. It sure has made the Tutels wealthy over the last ten years. One thing I've always wondered though was did Vinney, Rick or Cody get paid at all ? I know Cody sued Senior after he left, but I don't know the outcome of that.

I've maybe watched 15 episodes over the last five years, just to see the bikes built.  There's too much negative cra@ on some of these reality shows for my taste.  And the drama...ugh.    :o

Won't miss it at all. Haven't watched a full show in years. Got sick of the fake drama.

Shows get cancelled for 3 reasons.  #1. Ratings.  #2. Salary disputes during contract negotiations. #.3 actors get sick of the show and don't renew contracts.  Cancellation has nothing to do with the content.  It's all about the all mighty dollar!

Oops, forgot #4. Charlie Sheen (enough said).

If you wanted to celebrate a custom bike builder it should have been the done with the Ness family. He and his Hamster friends dominate the custom bike and aftermarket industry, heck they invented it.

In one of thefinalepisodes Vinny goes to see SR. The subject of all the OT Vinny was never paid comes up.
St's answer was "I made You".
Given that, I doubt Vinny was compensated what he should have been
Probably the same applies to Rick

Rick seems to be a nice guy and he's probably one of my favorite cast members.  I don't think Rick has much of a backbone and he probably gets taken advantage of.  Just my opinion and I may be wrong.

I used to love the show, but it became just another a sad soap opera... with welding tools. It hasn't been about building custom choppers for quite a long time, and I stopped watching it because of all the pointless drama.

I agree that a show about the Ness family would be FAR BETTER... they actually build cool bikes!  :2vrolijk_21:

No reason for the show. They have not built a bike yet that was worth a chit any way. If it was a reality show thy forgot the reality. All they did was make two sorry bike builders rich.

When Senile, er I mean Senior...told Vinny that he "made him" I lost what little respect I had for this
saggy buffoon. What a sap. Vinny and Rick are the talented and likable guys. Jason Poole is out of touch as far as motorcycle design is concerned. He is super jealous of Junior's natural talent. I wish Rick and Vinny good luck in the future.

X2

Frankly, Senior is an A$$.   I liked watching in the beginning, but the confrontational nature between Sr. and Jr. was just not good TV.    The episode where they have Mikey stand on the battery to "press" it into the chromed battery box was when they lost me.  ID10Ts.    Bring back Biker Build Off.  :2vrolijk_21:

Stopped Watching last yr. (didn't know it was ending) not to soon in my books.  I liked it in the beginning, then it started gitting in to the Gr/Sr baggage it got a bit much. I got enough baggage of my own with out sitting down at the end off the day to relax and watch some one else's on TV.

It was suppost to be an American Chopper, (Not American Baggage) show so I switched to

The Chopper series was waaay overdue for cancellation years ago.  There are a number real bike builders out there that Discovery could do a rotational series of shows and cover the best of the breed.  I'm sure motorcycle enthusiasts and non-riders alike would be intrigued to watch something of that nature.   The "theme bike" bull crap is like the old custom car days of way back....not built for anything but show pieces simply for looking at (aka; art).    Yes, there is talent in some of the fabrication of the T's bikes (if you can call them bikes).....but come on & get real....there is day to day talent in your local welding/fabrication shop that goes totally un-noticed.  The Rat Rod & Rockabilly culture proves that as well.....repurposing & ingenuity abounds in that world.

Personally, I'd like to see a show about pinstripers & painters (new & past great artists alike)....opens up a whole new world of imagination, color and smells....ahhh.

Good Riddins (sp?)

Hard to believe anyone would buy one of their hammered together "creations" after seeing the nonsense recorded for TV.

Fake drama and no girls? Next!

Could give a rat's behind whether they cancel that show or not.  In fact they could cancel all of these supposed "reality" shows.  :nixweiss:

They should do a similar show but handle the casting differently Charlie.  Find some competent machinists/builders from the distaff side.  Girl in denim shorts, middie t-shirt and a machinists apron is hot.  Put a little smudge of grease on her face and I'm never erasing the show from the DVR.

1sharperdkg, I quit watching the show a few years ago. I can't imagine a father and son acting  like that toward each other. I blame a lot of it on the money, but most of it on personalities and production. You know that Discovery loves it when they argue so they can charge more for their advertising. I am sure there of a lot of us that wish our father's were still here just so we could just talk to them for even 5 minutes.CAHDBIKER
Should have been canceled years ago!! If it's real...father and son acting like ass's toward each other they both should be ashamed and both need there butt's kicked! Haven't watched the show in years would rather watch grass grow!!

phantom309, How about American Hot Rod.I know it is not about motorcyles, but it was still the same basic scenario. I know Boyd is not with us any longer, but he was an innovator and taught people  therby giving a start to a couple of people who are now famous bike and car  builders, not parts replacers. They didn't argue as much as American Chopper, and Boyd could be a jerk at times,(he needed to get some people skills) but I found the show much more  interesting then American chopper and  I would watch reruns if they would air them. A little off course here, but I thought about the show while reading this thread and wish it was still on.CAHDBIKER

I used to watch that all the time! I think they need a new bike show thats more down to earth this time without all the drama ... maybe something kinda like Shadetree Mechanic ... except for bikes.

Watched the show for about 10 minutes once.  If I wanted to see grown men/adults fight about little or nothing at all, I'd attend my family reunion.
The same goes for just about any other "reality" TV crap show.  American Pickers being the exception.... :2vrolijk_21:

We need a show about baggers. And gas monkey guys who beat the chit out of ol whored out Jesse James. That guy needs to regroup and stop the chit talking then kissing ass to look good after all is done. I was so glad gas monkey kicked his ass. They were the only ones who brought a true chopper. Those guys deserve credit. But I can't stand that Richard guy. Any ways bring on more bike shows.

They need to chitcan jr. right along with his dad for eternity ... they both had a long enough ten year ride on the discovery gravy train. I've seen/heard enough of them ... sounds like sr. is already headed down the crapper with his big, fancy new building under forclosure. This time around they need a show about baggers that's more realistic without all the drama ... like baggers the average joe can afford and ride everyday, not just all show & no go for rich people.

I didn't realize it was still on the air. I gave up on the show after about the second season. The bikes all looked too similar to me. A lot of rigid frames that would never be ridden and if they were, they wouldn't be ridden much further than the local watering hole. I also lost interest when it turned into a soap opera. Way too much drama.

The only Tuttle I liked was Mikey.

I never really liked the bikes they build and really the personal BS, so I stopped watching it a long time ago.  So, my answer is that I really don't care if they cancel it.  If you hadn't posted this I wouldn't have even noticed.

Hopefully it get replaced by a Harley based show...something more along the lines of Trucks...with up-grade installs and some maintenance how-to's.
