1950 Panhead
« on: January 28, 2014, 01:42:30 PM »

I have a friend that's looking to sell a 1950 panhead basket case.  Any idea what this would be worth?  Most of the parts are there and it has both titles, one for the frame and one for the motor.  It was bought in NJ but it's in Chicago now.

If there is a title for the frame then I would assume (bad word!) that it is an aftermarket frame since there were no numbers on early frames.  A real H-D frame is worth about $3K or more if it has not been cut up and welded.  If the engine and trans are real H-D then that is what has the value.  Only having "most" of the parts leaves a TON of variables.  Best WILD guess on a non-running basket case would be ~$3k to $4K.  Most everyone who has a "basket case" thinks it's worth a lot more, so I don't expect any compliments.  :nixweiss:

I'm with you Jimmy everyone thinks wow it's a Panhead and that in itself adds value, not true, basket cases can be a can of worms at times.  I think your estimate is spot on.

If the crank turns I'll give you $800.00.

I bought a '51 some 20+ years ago.. it was parked in a horse trailer and covered with a tarp out in the country here in HI....

Paid $1K for it complete...it kicked over then...  its now under my house and taken apart in boxes... I said I'd work on it when I hit 50... guess I better go drag it out soon...

My thought was to finish it and send it to my big brother for his 70th birthday (This'll give me about 6 years to finish it... )
