I'm about to do the same. Not sure of 10 or 8 though. There are lots of threads on this site and others. Check out HD forums. there are pictorials, videos, parts lists etc. Just do a search. Most people report that up to 10 inch, you're good without replacing any cables.

I have learnt you can buy a kit from these guys to do it all.

There is plenty of slack for 10's. If you go bigger you will need to extend the lines.

What do you guys change to the apes for?  Is it handling or just looks?

Both Wayne. My 13's are super comfy and I love the look.  :2vrolijk_21:

I fully intend to add 10 inch apes this winter. Just have to decide if I do it myself or pay someone to do it.  Seems simple.  Hardest part appears to be getting the wires through the bars.

Chains I have done bars on this bike twice, both times in the middle of winter. I would do a little here, a little there. Patience is the key. It's not a daunting task but it is a bit tedious. Pulling the wires can require a few breaks to cool your jets lol.

Just as I thought. We get a little cool here in mid January so I think that would be a good time to put the bike up for a while and tackle the bars. Shoulder hurts too much on long rides to put up with it any longer.

Thanks Jesse

You're welcome. I really think not being pressed for time helps a lot with the installation.

I have been kicking this addition around as well, comfort as in position? I also see discomfort as now my hand are up in the chilling breeze. Oh yes gloves, and all those switches to navigate? I guess if I just move to a warmer place I can "APE" it.

They look great Jesse...  I guess the comfort just comes from the position of your arms being more level?

My 2012 convertible came with the eight inchers. To me they are more laid back and comfortable. No slouching forward which may attribute to any back pains...I love them!!! I would think ten inchers would do the same.

I tore my Ultra apart last winter and put 16 in Cyclesmith apes on. I got tripped up getting the wires pulled and took the wires and bars to the dealership, they pulled the wires and off I went and finished the job.
