"I don't want a louder sound but want more power and less heat."
If you are still running the stock header pipes with the CAT in it and replace them with the X-pipe, then no, it will get louder because you don't have the CAT acting like a piece of cotton and muffling the sound, but yes you will get less heat (no CAT) and more power: the CAT robs about 6-8 HP.

glens - glad you know how to quote.  What is your point?

RedDevil - are the pipes substantially louder with the x-pipe?

Not substantially, but noticeably louder.  In the case of my SESG3 and my SEURG, it actually gave the mufflers more of a louder rumble to them, which was definitely nice to hear.

Sweet, that may be exactly what I am looking for.  Once I have lowers installed I'll definitely need to do something to reduce any current engine heat.

I put a catless head pipe and Fullsac 2" baffles on my 09 SERG and it made it sound a lot nicer, just a little louder, but not too much.  Hard to explain but it sounds much better now.

I think glens is answering hogmike's post above.  We do that on this forum to move things along, with no dissing (well, not much, anyway  8)) intended.

Thank you.  Yes, that was my sole intent.

If one throws a little more fuel at the engine to relieve some heat there, and they (still) have a cat in the headpipe, the cat will throw off additional heat as it burns off the remnants of that additional fuel, so likely no overall gain in heat loss, just more of a relocation.

In answer to the recent question, with an "empty" pipe and cams thrown into the mix, with a decent/proper tune you'll get (some) more power, (some) more engine heat as you produce that extra power (perhaps some less as you don't), and noticeably more sound, but you'll lose all the heat of the cat.

The Fullsac pipe is ceramic coated inside and out, so it could be said they'll throw off a little less heat themselves than a pipe that's not coated.  I believe mostly what happens is they just take longer to get about as hot, though that's just a WAG on my part.  I have a set on a 103 with cams and compared to running with just slip-ons on the cat'd stock headpipe/cams (which was noticeably louder than all stock, though not terribly so) it is louder, more powerful, and with nearly the same amount of engine heat overall, near as I can tell on that last one.

It's kinda hard to explain, but, with the x-pipe the sound is "different", much more pleasing to my seasoned ears.
I don't think it's any louder than the cat-less header, all things being equal. Both these options are cooler without the cat.
I have noticed that at light load, crusing at about 2500 RPM it's just "sweet" at the kids say!
I personally LIKE the sound from my bike. With the addition of 54 cams there is just a really sweet sound. I plan to use the x-pipe on one of my bigger engines and shelve the true duals I have on it now (too loud at cruise).
I am using modifided CVO mufflers on 2 of the bikes, one is 1 3/4, other is 2" and both sound very nice, plus they look pretty "stock" (stealth) which is the look I'm after.
JM not-so-humble O, of course!

Mike, when you did the 54 cams did you also put in the .30 head gasket?  I'm planning on the cams but haven't decided if I want to take the time to pull the heads or not.  Getting kind of lazy in my old age.

Yeah, Steve twisted my arm to go "all the way", and I'm a pretty happy camper.
Heads were no big deal as I pulled my rockers anyway to pull the pushrods and change lifters, etc.

We did almost the same combo with a 96" bagger. I can actually "feel" the difference from the 103 to the 96. My 103 is just so smooooooth!
We're doing the103 kit to the 96, and I'll load my map in his bike and see if there's any difference.
I'm lazy too, only work on the bikes when it's too nasty to ride (about 1 day in 2 months)!
