Do '07 SE models come w/ Stage 1 Air Cleaner or is it pretty much stock?   If I change exhaust and SERT do I need to change Air Filter?

Isn't it true that K&N filters do not filter small particulates as well as paper filters?  They have to be washed, dried for at least a day, and oiled too.  I'm still in favor of paper...but I'm in the minority. [smiley=confused5.gif]

Dude,
The K&N filter if properly oiled works the best.  You need a can of the red "snot" (aka.  filter oil),  but it does trap more small particles than a paper filter.  You do have to wash, dry (not with compressed air ((that will surely damage the filter element)) just hang it front of a fan for a couple of hours) and re-install it.  Spray it good with snot and off you go.  You may notice the bike running a little lean for the first few miles,  but the oil will get sucked into the motor and burned (no biggie...little lube for the top end).

Enjoy

I don't know where everyone's been oredering their K&N filters from. I just ordered mine from "4filters.com". K&N PN HD-0800 for $50.95. Free shipping over $50 and no tax (unless you live in CA). Thought I'd pass it along. I have no idea what it goes for elsewhere but this was really painless. Hoist!

Anyone know if there is an alternate source for the deeper 2.75" K&N filter that Bob Woods and Zippers offer in their kits?

DHT,

Here is the issue with the Harley's they fall apart and by that I mean the blue lining / black lining I had one on the bike for less than 2 weeks and it was crumbling in my hands.   I cant be sure that over rattling and riding / wind blowing etc that those same pieces from the Harley air cleaner didnt get sucked into the intake.   I will wash / clean my air filter and hang it up over night or sit it infront of a fan to dry any day over what harley is currently offering.

The other side to this is Harley used to sell K&N as their upgraded filter, but I guess profits got in the way of good products, so they didnt renew the contract and we now have the blue / black crappy filters if you want to stay OEM.

...You need a can of the red "snot" (aka.  filter oil),

What is the trade name of this stuff?  I just read the thread and will order a K & N, but am not sure what the "snot" stuff is.  Appears to be filter oil, but can someone give the the brands to consider?

Yes, I am not very mechanical.  My brothers got all of those genes ::)

This is what your looking for http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=99-5000

Very easy to do. After it's washed just set the filter in the sun or in front of a fan. It should be dry in about 20-30 minutes. Then apply the oil as directed and your ready to go.

Total down time for cleaning/drying/oiling is about one hour if done right. Otherwise buy two filters and swap them out when needed to eliminate down time.

I usually clean filter when I'm washing the bike. Just put a plastic bag over the throttle body. By the time your done washing the bike your filter's ready to go.

This is the cheapest I've found it http://www.amazon.com/K-N-Filter-Oil-Cleaner/dp/B000AK9II0 But I've never ordered from them. The kit usually goes for about $ 19.95.

Hope this helps,

Grover
