Smart Siren question
« on: August 08, 2009, 11:38:09 PM »

Does the CVO street glide have the smart siren II that incorporates the paging feature and all I need to do is add the pager, or do I need to replace the siren module as well.

Per the H. D. web site the US version includes the immobilizer. Outside the US it includes the immobilizer and a siren. (Footnote 8 under specs.)

YTes it does mention the siren and I do have one, but it also mentions the paging unit in one spot, buit it is vague on whether the siren needs to be upgraded in order to make it work

I just bought a siren II for a CVO (for an 09 bike).. When I bought the pager, they would not work together. After 3 trips to the dealer (during Sturgis) they were stumped. They had tried two pagers without success and wasted about 8 hours of my time.

The factory rep didn't have any answers and promised to call me with a solution; which he never did. Anyway, I finally forced them to replace the siren II with a different model and now it works. I should get paid for knowing more than the factory reps, what a crock... The pager will only work with siren II if it has the dangling wire antenna. obviously a well kept factory secret...

That's the obvious tell-tale.  The siren module has no antenna.  The Siren II does.

the original (CVO siren module) was a siren II and had no antenna. I think that's what stumped the HD guys... A different part number siren II did have an antenna...  but yes, you need the antenna to use the pager...

You certain?  I didn't remember any of the CVO bikes coming with the Siren II sounder/Xceiver.  Sales guys often thought or said they did.  But those of us that wanted them always had to open the wallet again.

I don't remember them coming w/them either. There was an add on transmitter/pager kit that you could add to the Smart Siren (of which the transmitter was not very good and often crapped out >:().

Bike didn't come with one, it was ordered out of the 2009 CVO parts manual. Yep, it said smart siren II, but had no antenna.  The factory rep stated; "I don't even know what this is?"  Go figure... It works now, just a PITA to get it fixed because according to the parts book it should have worked... It kinda worries you when the factory reps can't figure out their own systems... Just glad I pushed it and made them replace the siren or I would still have $200 worth of junk that didn't work..

Which side is that module on so I can go look at it. I know it is behind either the cruise control module or the ECM--the memory is going....

According to my SESG owner's manual on page 81, it says: "The Harley-Davidson smart security System consists of a hands-free security module and a hands-free antenna mounted on the motorcycle... On page 91, it also says:  "NOTE  The alarm will also activate the LED, vibrations or audible modes of a Harley-Davidson Security Pager...."  According to figure 51 on page 153, the antenna for the HFSS is horizontally laying along the left front portion of the battery.  So, I would guess that the HFSS module is under the left side cover then.   :nixweiss:

Yes, left side in front of fuse box. My 09 SG is not a SE. The 09 parts book does not list a siren II for my bike, so they pulled the part number from the CVO book because it siad it would work with the pager. Although the siren was labeled "smart siren II", it had no antenna and would not work with pager, even though part number in CVO parts manual said it would. The 09 street glide was the new frame and a lot of the parts for it were somehow ommitted from the parts catalogs. For example, I also wanted the three bar light at the fender bottom to work as a brake light and a running light. The part is not listed anywhere for the 09 SG. The parts guy figured since the newer frame and wider fender started with the 09s, then the 2010 light bar would be the correct part. Wrong! Although the 09 had a wider fender, the light was actauly the same as used in the 08s, not the 2010s....

Just a slight problem with 09s and parts catalogs.
