Zumo 660 sounds through factory HD radio?
« on: August 15, 2009, 12:04:16 PM »

I just installed a Z660 on my SEUC4.  Everything works except when I plug in the Audio Out lead into the AUX jack on the factory HK radio.  The Zumo sounds do play through the sound system but the radio goes into "Aux" mode, which disables the radio/cd from playing music.

Is this 'normal'?  Does anyone know of a workaround so that I can listen to tunes  and still get the turn prompts from the Zumo?

Thanks!

I don't have a 660 yet but from what i have read the easy fix is to use the memory on the 660 to record music and in effect play the 660 music and it will mute when directions come up on the GPS part.
What you describe sounds normal. On my 2006 with an old Garmin I have to choose music to listen to or directions, not both. I just switch to AUX when I know turns are close.

That is normal and working as designed when you have "Aux" selected. If you desire to have music playing while waiting for voice prompts on your Zumo you'll need to download some MP3's to your SD card. You then can have the Zumo playing the music and it will interupt w/voice directional voice prompts while pausing the music.

  I foolishly assumed that since I had  HARLEY and it came with HARLEY radio and I bought the official HARLEY edition of the Zumo, that everything would be designed to WORK TOGETHER!!  :nixweiss:

hahaha.

No such luck.  Any external audio device (regardless of the audio [i.e., GPS voice, music, whatever) plugged in to the aux jack is just another auxiliary input.  Name on the device doesn't alter its function.  Another 15 or 20 years and HD will finally have first gen Bluetooth in their in dash radios.  Localized audio will be transmitted that way from external devices.  This is Harley though, so maybe 25.

OK but why then is there a "Nav" input selection on the radio? I was hoping there was some kind of priority circuit setup in there. Too good to be true?

That's for the nav module that can be installed internally in the radio and display directions through the face of the radio.  Anything that plugs in to the aux port on the front of the radio is an auxiliary device.
