Title: Trip to Bushtec
Post by: DCFIREMANN on June 19, 2017, 08:55:05 AM
A week ago I made the trek to Tennessee to Bushtec. I was going to drop off my trailer to have it painted. I was greeted by Keith who I met in Sturgis last year. I actually met my local dealer there and helped the Bushtec crew set up the site. I asked before we did anything was to tour the facility. They were more then accommodating. Keith also told me not to expect much as they were doing some reorganizing of the shop and finishing the concrete floors. I was very impressed with the operation especially the final paint area. They had a lot of bodies already out of the mold and primed sanded and prepped for painting. They also had a few frames already built and ready for bodies.

Bushtec was sold and they are trying to get the entire operation up and running smoothly. The original owners son Andrew has come back to work at Bushtec. Bustec is now trying to focus on CUSTOMER SERVICE. When you call you may talk to Stoney, Todd or Andrew and occasionally Keith.

After the grand tour Keith and I went out and looked at my trailer and discussed what I wanted done and the other options I wanted on the trailer. After running the numbers Keith asked me if I thought about trading in and buying new. I told him no I was happy with what I had. He then ran the numbers on a new unit. They made me one heck of a deal I could not walk away from. They gave me more for my Turbo then I paid for it. When it was all said and done the new trailer was $200.00 more then it was going to cost me to paint and add options to my existing trailer. So I placed the order and will be picking up my new trailer in a week. After the sale the painter Duane came out and we went over the design. I was very pleased with how professional he was.

All in all it was a great trip and they are working on bring Bushtec back to where it was years ago. Rumor has it they are going to be building there own pop up camp trailer. I have a few pics I am going to try to post later today.

Great to see Bushtec returning to their former greatness. Nothing like having local owners committed to quality and customer service. I've been to the factory many times and have taken friends there also. Always greeted with a friendly smile and treated well. Enjoy your new trailer.

I went to the factory to pick mine up in early '07 and was treated pretty much like that as well.  If I remember correctly, I placed my order over the phone a couple days before Christmas '06 and talked to a member of the family to do it.  Spent close to an hour on the phone with them.  It was a very pleasant and comfortable experience.  They gave me a tour as well when I picked the bike up and the production manager (can't remember his name but everyone who met him thought he was awesome) showed me everything about the trailer and hookup process.  It was a nice experience, but this was 10+ years ago now.

It sounds like they were listening to old customers and reading the forums and decided to change things with the family re-acquisition.  All this sounds good and promising!

And of course, we want to see pictures of the finished product when you get her back!

The Bushtec office is just 30 miles up the road from me so if anyone needs anything when down to pick up their new trailer/service/issues, just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I've had three Bushtec trailers over the years.  ALWAYS good dealings with them although it's good to see the "boys" back... :2vrolijk_21:

Thank you both. It's just sitting in the garage covered up waiting on August 3rd. I'm thinkin a short road trip with it loaded just to be sure everything is OK with it.

It would be very smart to load it up with 50 pounds of stuff or so and take it for a ride.  You'll need to know how it feels behind you, especially since it can really slow braking distances down.  Practice a few emergency braking maneuvers to get a sense for that.
The trailer tracks wonderfully in turns (even sharp ones), but you'll also want to get used to the feel of riding the clutch a little more from a standing start.
Buy yourself a 50lb fish scale like the one below to gage your tongue weight.  You can find them at walmart for less than $15.  It works nicely with the heim joint tongue hole.  Get your tongue weight to about 20 min, 25lbs max, then give her a test ride.  You won't believe how sweet the loaded trailer with track behind you!

This is my second Bushtec. Took my first one to Alaska last year. I just want to check this one out to make sure it has no problems.
