I have updated these files in the past with NO PROBLEM.  So, I updated the Boom s/w -- no problem.  Everything appeared to work just fine.  Then I noticed a new dealer locator file and I figured why not?  Didn't go so well.  The installer stalled in a loop that displays a screen that says  "Software Update  Please Wait..." for about 5 seconds and then a black screen for about 5 seconds and then loop, loop...   So I waited for a couple hours and then pulled the thumb drive and then it said to replace the thumb drive to complete the install.  Nope, back to the same loop.  I pulled the radio fuse and that didn't change anything. Turned everything off and left it overnight.  Same screens and messages.

Does anyone have a reset sequence for a 15?  I found one for a 14, but that didn't work either.  Dealer can get me in next week, but I would like a radio/nav before then.

Same here, I've had no problem in the past doing updates in the past on my 15 CVO Limited or my current 17 CVO Limited, and my bike took the 1.21.2.1 update just fine. I also noticed the new dealer update and figured why not.. And, I ended up in the same loop that wouldn't update. I tried to download the file again, no luck. Reformatted the stick FAT instead of FAT32, no dice. Finally I put the files for 1.21.2.1 back on the stick and the infotainment grabbed those and reinstalled 1.21.2.1. Of course I couldn't leave well enough alone since the dealer update didn't take, so I tried again, and again I ended up in the loop. I threw the infotainment files back on the stick and it did another update to 1.21.2.1 to get out of the loop and now i'm going to leave it as is, for now at least.

When you down load the dealer file, open it up and drag just the swdl file into the UBS stick then retry the install, I did mine that way and had no problems

I just tried that, only the swdl is on the stick now, but it gets stuck on Authenticating and won't go past that for me.

Darn, you guys are GOOD!  I thought I tried all the reinstall combinations.  I reinstalled 1.21.2.1 and it came back to life.  Against my better judgment I tried the swdl only option for the new dealer file.  NO GO, stuck on authenticating like DDALE340.

It is working now, so I think I will quit while I am ahead, go for a ride, and wait for the next "revised file to be released."

I would try reformatting the UBS stick and give it another try, your on the right track when it says "authenticating" it took me two times but for some reason it went through on the second try

Well, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one experiencing the problems with the Dealer Map Update. I tried Serdvd6's approach (including reformatting the USB) and still no bueno. Will play with it more tomorrow.

Welcome to H-D Beta Test Week everyone!

Well if my old mind is working correctly to do the dealer update you have to have both
Iso file and the NNG folder in the root of the USB stick. The Checksum file is in the folder.

Chuck, tried that in attempts 1-3 to no avail. Tried without and that didn't work either. I must be holding my mouth wrong.

Try this wait until the system is booted up fully before plugging in the usb stick.
I did not do the dealer update today but will try it tomorrow.

Well maybe you have to have both files loaded separately, I know you had to do something different then what you do when you update the boom infotainment system, see below, I wished I could remember, it was only two weeks ago and had no problems, it was only the second time updated the dealer maps.

Installed dealer and Info update this morning, no problems but this was mainly due to the help from others on this site. I would never have figured out the dealer download and the need to open and copy both folders if not for posting on here.
Thanks again.

Update easy but had to remove radio and reformat, reload two Dealer files to get Dealer location update to work. Also authentication was up for about three minutes before Dealer part worked. No big deal. Just don't do together

Okay, did the updates and had no issues.  Step by step this is what I did:

1) Download the Dealer update to PC (Harley_POI_Maps.zip).  Open ZIP folder, highlight and copy both items listed: nng (File Folder) and swdl.iso (Disc Image File).
2) Open USB thumb drive #1 with NOTHING on it, and paste the files.
3) Download the Boom update to PC (swdl_boombox_6.5GT_CVO.1.21.2.1).  Open ZIP folder, highlight and copy both items listed: swdl_boombox_6.5GT_CVO.iso (disc Image File) and swdl_premium.iso.md5 (MD5 File).
4) Open USB thumb drive #2 with NOTHING on it, and paste the files.

You can use one USB thumb drive, but be sure to erase first files before pasting in second files.  I had two thumb drives, so I did them separate and saved myself a trip back and forth to the garage.

Next:
1) Turn on bike in Accessory mode
2) Turn on InfoPainMent system and wait for initial boot-up
3) Press Navigation button and WAIT until it says Navigation is ready
4) Insert dealer Update thumb drive and wait as it authenticates (15-20 seconds total)
5) Display says "make sure in accessory mode", hit yes, then start update.
6) Watch Package progress 1 of 1 and Overall update for Dealer update (took mine less than a minute).
7) Display says "update complete, remove USB drive".  Remove drive, system reboots.

Next: Repeat the same process for the Boom update using the USB with the Boom files on it.  This one takes a bit longer because there are 10 packages to update.  Mine completed in something like 5-7 minutes (wasn't really paying attention).

1) Turn on bike in Accessory mode
2) Turn on InfoPainMent system and wait for initial boot-up
3) Press Navigation button and WAIT until it says Navigation is ready
4) Insert BoomBox Update thumb drive
5) Display says "make sure in accessory mode", hit yes, then start update.
6) Watch Package progress 1 of 10 and Overall update for BoomBox update (took 5-7 minutes).
7) Display says "update complete, remove USB drive".  Remove drive, system reboots.

I then went into system and checked software versions and everything took.

Good luck guys!

Hmmm, wonder if installation order matters. Both you and Serdvd6 have been successful with doing the DMU first, then the system update. Everyone else is failing the DMU install. I keep a library of all updates, so will re-load the previous system update and try the DMU first.

Thanks for sharing the step-by-step process...always helpful to those who have never done updates before, especially since some dealers are starting to charge for performing the update.

You will have success by going back to1.21.04 then loading the dealer file and then reinstalling 1.21.2.1.
I guess we are still a bunch of unpaid beta testers.
I wonder if they will pay me my hourly rate after 81/2 hours today.

Followed Bulldogs instructions and it worked perfectly.  One thing I did note.  On my 2016, you have to do the actual accessory switch (hitting the left button to turn on the infortainment system) was the only way to make it work.  You can't do the update with the full system on.

Confirming another successful install once I reverted back to v1.21.0.4. DMU now loaded and system re-upgraded to v1.21.2.1. Now for the real beta testing to begin!

For those joining late in the conversation, install the Dealer Map Update BEFORE upgrading to v1.21.2.1.

Well I hope this is the right place. I'm trying to update the software for the Infotainment system on my 15 CVO. I have downloaded the software update from the Harley site  CVO.1.21.2.1 I thought I was following the instructions but after powering on the radio, then pluging in the thumb drive I get a message on the screen " No Playable Media Found" I have gone as far as trying other new thumb drives and even formating the drives with no luck. Got any ideas?

It's because you downloaded the file into a folder. You have to copy it to the root level of the drive.
Title: Re: New up date for Boom Box
Post by: RK2000 on September 15, 2017, 06:19:30 PM
OK I'm struggeling here. If there are no files or folders on the drive wouldnt I be coping the file at the root level. If not could you please explain how too.
Thanks

Post by: King Glide on September 15, 2017, 07:34:19 PM
Ok, if you have an empty thumb drive that has been formatted, download the file to your desktop, then you must unzip the file by extracting it to the root level of the thumb drive, meaning if your thumb drive is called D:/ that is where you extract it. If E:/ that is where it goes, etc.

There should be three files on the thumb drive if you did it correctly.
