I have noticed an odd sound when the brakes are applied, it sounds like something is contacting the front fender. Is it the ABS? Has anyone heard a similar noise?
-
Front brake pads shifting slightly in the brembo caliper. Often heard on 08 and newer touring bikes.
I have never heard of it escalating to the point where it causes a problem.
-
Nice to know that is normal. I was wondering the same.
"clunk"
-
Great info, I never would have thought of that, Thanks
-
Is it only when the front brakes are applied? If so the noise could also be a sign of loose steering head bearings. The ABS should not make any noise unless it is activating.
-
yeah I have only heard it when from brake is applied, its a clanking sound. I think it maybe the brake pad.
-
I've noticed it after backing and then the first application of the front brake. After that it's not there until I back up again.
-
yeah same here, I think that it can be attributed to that front brake
-
The "Clunk" is also at the 09SERG , it is caused by the swimming brake-rotors , the bolts are little smaller than the holes but that is a "must be" , you can check and hear it when the frontwheel is lifted to turn free , take the rotors in both hands and try to push it forward and backwards , then you will hear the "Clunk" .

Thanks for the info

Floating rotors with ABS normal operational noise

just got my 2010 sat.28th noticed same sound does anyone know what to do? harley says they have not heard of the promble.
-
If it is the clunk when braking , then there is nothing to do , that`s normal .
-
I've noticed it also. Wearing a full face helmet, I've tried to get it duplicate with the helmet off and I can never get it to duplicate. :nixweiss:
I'll try the backing up, then going forward.

That's when mine clunks. First front brake application going forward after backing up.

I have the same noise! :nixweiss:

This is a good thread, I beleive that this sound is normal due to the pad shifting.
-
not to the pad shifting but to the swimming brake-rotor .
-
perfectly normal with first application of front brake, nothing to worry about.
