Saddlebag Lock
« on: January 23, 2007, 04:45:02 PM »

Hi Team,

isn't it outrageous that we have to buy the saddlebag locks separately after spending 30k+ on a CVO Road King? We get all kind of "stuff" like the liners, cover, brass key etc. - but the saddlebag locks (in Europe 125 Euro = approx. 160 $) have to be ordered separately!

Upset,
Louis

Sorry Louis, it gets worse, they don't work either! You can push the side of the bag in enough to pop the lock open. No one at HD will tell you this. Please, don't shoot the messenger. that's why I'm putting Hard Bags on too. Then I'll have both to chose from! ;) Hoist! 8-)

You're in the SERK section now, not the General CVO. if I was the SERK mod, you'd be off-topic! ;D ;D ;D

Hey, where's my back-up here? Are you SERK guys gonna let them push us around in our own section? :o

Since 90% of the post here are yours then you would be moderating yourself!
Based on post count per day I don't see that happening!
You would wind up deleting yourself!

I've been moderating myself over 52 years and haven't managed to delete myself yet. I'm not sure how though sometimes! :o One day we all will wake up deleted. I'm not up to that yet. :-? I might have to think about it though, if I ever start thinking about a Glide! ::) Hoist! 8-)

 [smiley=soapbox.gif]

Bonjour Louis,

Why do you buy your parts in Germany and not directly in States ?
The final cost (parts and shipping and eventually taxes for importation) will be half the european prices.
It's possible to order the parts in US for the pricelist HD US less 20% (for example :Chicago Harley), you add the advantage of the parity Euro/$ = 20% more. That pays the shipping and taxes.
More, when I order the parts delivered by USPS (not available with UPS or DHL), I've no importation taxes because the french Post register not the custom declarations if the cost is less 600 or 700$ approximatly.
If my order is more this limit, it's better to divide the packaging in two parcels.

Is it a problem for you in Germany ?

Regards
Jacques

Regards
Jacques

No, it is no problem to order the parts directly. But even at half the price I'd be upset.  [smiley=soapbox.gif]

SC, you know I'd be happy to do so when I'm done. [highlight]After all, gotta keep up the PPD count[/highlight]! ::) ;) Hoist! 8-)

That what we all live for, you keeping that post per day count up!
R/K, UC, SEEG, FXR, quality of post,,, none of that matters it's only that post per day count.
That's why mine stays under 5. I piss off too many people when it gets above 5.
So out of respect for this great site, the members and the moderators I keep it below 5 per day.

Damn, maybe I have hit on something [highlight]again![/highlight] [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
What a concept!
Will it sink in?

It don't take much to get you lit! The whole purpose for that comment was to see. Point proven! I post to be engaging and to encourage exchanges of ideas, and to get to know folks. Count is unimportant to me. You're way to hung up on this posting thing Chip. Life's too short man. Lighten up! Hoist! 8-)

Ah, you got it off you chest. Feel better now? I have to prove nothing to you. If and when a mod tells me my posting is inappropriate, I'll then determine my future regarding same. Thank God we live in America, where we're all entitled to our opinions, which I'm also entitled to ignore.

As stated much earlier, I won't be at MBBW, which if you're so bent by my posts, you would have read before.

If you're really done, prove it. Do not respond to my posts, and I won't respond to yours.

And now I'm done and am prepared to prove that, as long as you are. Hoist! 8-)

Oh BTW, the only reason I can see for your last post here is to increase your PC! Keep those quality posts coming! ;D ;D ;D

I have been a member of this site for several weeks now and this is my first post. I joined because of my relatively new found love for hd's and  because I anticipated that I could learn a whole lot about them here. I had been to other forums before but never joined. However there appeared to be something special about this site and I wanted to be a part of it. The good natured ribbing that I read before joining and the helpful hints that I saw being exchanged seemed like family being family and family taking care of family.  But having recently noticed two exchanges that seemed inappropriate for our "family" I thought it was time to say something re one of them. I  have learned a lot from Hoist's posts (and those of many other members here) and would like to say thanks to him and everyone else on this site. Accordingly I for one would  vote for him to keep those numbers up. (does anyone really care about the number of posts someone has? if you do why would you?  the phrase "get a life" comes to mind) Anyway if  someone has a problem with another brother's post (and don't forget that being brothers is part of who we are) then  simply scoll on down the page. Hopefully I have not offended anyone here as that was not my intention.

twojay, welcome to the site! [smiley=2vrolijk_09.gif]

We are like family here . . . . . but just like family, we get on one another's nerves from time-to-time.  The two posters have taken public what would have been better off handled in PM's, but they say they're "done," so I'll take them at their word.  The special atmosphere that you mentioned in your post is what the Rules of Posting and we, as Moderators, look to maintain.

Thanks for the welcome Silver-Black. Unfortunately you are right about the costs. I had several pages of mods that I was considering, after reading about them here, and nearly had the big one when I started adding up the total costs. Oh well, it's only money. lol

Couldn't imagine all the activity over a saddlebag lock and most likely could have looked in sooner, but it does give me the chance to say welcome twojay.

You'll learn a lot here especially as you are relatively new to Harley.  The more the merrier [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Welcome aboard TJ. Always great to have another SERK owner with us. What color did you order? A bunch of us just recently picked up our '07's. You'll be able to learn a lot from what each of us have done. That'll make things easier figuring out what you want to do to your bike. I didn't say cheaper, just a little easier! I hope you handle the wait better than I did! ;) Hoist! 8-)

Laughing here. You're exactly right skycuse. I'm Harley for life myself. I do think the GW is a great bike, it's just not for me. It's not a Harley. I'd guess the GW would last longer, run faster, and require less maintenance. As I told a friend who asked me WHY I bought a Harley, I simply replied, if I had to explain, you'd never understand.

I take exception to the following things

1) Last longer????? How many 50 year old goldwings do you see?
OK, OK maybe 20 year old wings? I'm betting that percentage wise there are more 20 year old harleys than 20 year old wings still running.

2) Run faster than what? Even with my SEEG I got great pleasure dusting wingers. Trust me, they are not that fast.

You know, I couldn't argue with you wither way. you may very well be 150% right. I assummed that with the 6 cylinder air cooled engine it would be both long lasting and fast. I have never ridden one though. Either way, I'll keep my hawg.

Well he better start by breakin the bank and havin Alligator Bob set him up with some really trick saddlebags and seat. When he catches his breath from the jaw droppin bill that accompanies that upgrade he can then mortgage his house on chrome. And at the end of the day no matter what he does it won't be a 100th Anniversary model now will it ?  Elvis is King - - all hail the King.

Don't worry B B, no intentions on trying to out do you or anyone else for that matter. I'm setting it up for ME! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] No Alligator Bob bags either. I'm getting a set of hard bags painted to match, so that'll differentiate my bike enough for me! But I'm not doing close to what you did. Also, Elvis was king when he was alive and he still is. Lemme see here.
I've got one bike that's painted one of kind Centennial Gold with red, black and gold leaf highlights, has a ton of chrome on it, wide whitewalls and a set of saddlebags and seat made out of crocodile, ostrich and Scottish leather with red, white and gold hand tooled carvings in it

I've got another bike that's brilliant pearl orange, covered in chrome and black flames with black hand made leather seat and seat backs.

Does that about cover you wish list dude ?

Once again great minds think alike. You beat me to the punch 103

B B

Actually the dyno drum has a motor to roll it over. I watched John Golden get a bike started that was just so screwed up it wouldn't run. It would fire and die, fire and die. So John kept it goin with the dyno drum and worked his magic. The owner took off up the road and came back a few minutes later with a grin I thought would split his face. "Man" he said to John, "I thought I'd never get this thing running right. How do I thank you." " you just did " John said.
