Sunday morning putt to Sugar Mountain

1st stop, 30 miles from back door. Up hwy 181...........watch out for the crotch rockets. A State Trooper could make a career on this road.

File photo of what the locals call the Radiator.....for obvious reasons. Buildings over 3 stories were outlawed soon after this eye-sore was completed

Thanks a bunch for posting.  Will have to check that area out when we get back there.  How did that mountain get it's name?

Safe bet that you have ridden it. Several times it was a featured ride during MVGTG. Going down is my Fave..........let it rip. The eye-sore is Sugar Top Resort and comes from the fact that it is on Sugar Mnt. Near Boone, NC. The Devils Whip is North of Marion, NC

We rode NC 80 north out of Marion NC to Bakersville, then picked up NC 261 into KY and KY 143 to Roan Mountain. Did not get close enough to Sugar Mountain to see that ugly resort!

Did get close enough to a large motorhome towing a car on NC 80 though to count the bugs on the front end! Stupid motorhome was taking up half my lane as I came around a very tight curve on NC 80! Good thing I had taken that corner tight on the white line or it would have been over for us!
