M8 117 in 2018 is not the same as 117 stage four?
« on: September 03, 2017, 02:36:34 AM »

G'day

Just seeing dyno figures on the net and also reviews of 2018 engines in 117 Ci
And it seems this engine is less than the SE Stage four kit from 2017 M8 touring bikes.

Anyone know the configuration of the 117ci in the 2018 CVO compared to the SE kit 117 ci
What's missing ..

I reckon, bigger throttle body, cam and a few other minor things like spring etc.

Its not even close to a stage 4 117. A stock 2018 CVO 117 is identical to a 2017 CVO 114 except for the cylinders and pistons. A stage 4 kit adds CNC ported heads, 64 mm Throttlebody, larger injectors, higher performance cam and an entirely different ecu map.

The Factory CVO 117 is not a stage IV kit.  The Factory CVO 117 has the same heads as a factory 114, it also does not have the stage 4 cam.  From what I have been able to figure out so far is its basically the same as the 114 except 3 ci bigger.

If Mother Harley did all the good stuff stock (to help justify the gawdawful unit price of the new bikes) they would not then have more for you to buy after you've recovered from buying the bike.  They're doing the new owner a service by not having all the good stuff on their stock.  Otherwise the owner would never know the pleasure of upgrades!

It is true, however, that "117" just SOUNDS so much faster than "114."

The compression ratio 2017, 114 is 10.5.1 and the 2018 CVO 117 is 10.2.1

Not sure how much hotter yet.  It does have the oil cooler and the fan for it.  My last two were liquid cooled.  This is not.  Its not been hot out yet so I can not say how much hotter it is on a hot day.

I am looking forward to first hand experience on the non liquid cooled heads from those that transitioned.

I'm liking mine a lot so far.  I have 360 miles on her so far.  Not been real hot out yet, but the bike does not seem hotter than the 2017 SESG I just traded.  It doesn't seem as hot as the 2015 SERGU I had either.

That opinion may change on a 95 degree day though

Ride a stock 07 110 and you will feel the heat especially if hot outside. Back in the day some of us saw over 310F oil temps and you don't even want to know the cylinder head temps. I know we're talking about the new or newer bikes. Just giving a heat comparison.

I'm betting the rear cylinder heat guard that's now standard on the 2018's keeps the chestnuts from roasting as much as earlier models.

Enjoy!!
