I have new pads from 4-5 years ago with 2 slots. The newer pads are made with 1 slot. I can use the pads with 2 slots on the front (match), and use the 1 slot on the rear. LRB also said they would swap out the old 2 sets for the newer style. He said no performance issues, but I did not ask why the change. I am sure there are a reason they changed.
