The Last Waltz
« on: November 29, 2017, 07:27:13 PM »

DVR'd this movie on cable from the AXS TV channel a couple days ago.  It documents the farewell performance of 'The Band' on Thanksgiving Day 1976 in San Francisco.  Man, oh man, it was just great.  For those of us old enough (and sober enough, lol) to remember the late 60s and early 70s this is a delight.  I never really appreciated the group when they were in their hey day.  But especially Levon Helm since he is from around my area of the country just really amazes me.  These guys, all of them, were so very, very good and accomplished musicians.  And the guest artists they had on the show - Dr. John, the Staple Singers, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Emily Lou Harris, are awesome!  I know I probably sound like my parents but I just cannot get into today's music.  It just isn't even in the same category as what came out back then.

It was a great movie. Saw it when it came out.   :2vrolijk_21:
But if you can remember the sixties, you weren't really there.

It was a great documentary.  I just got distracted by the booger hanging out of Neil Young's nose.

I remember the sixties, it was the seventies that was fuzzy.  :(
Some started in the late sixties and continued into the late seventies. :o

Remembering the parts of the late sixties and 70s that I can't remember are better memories than most of the parts that I can remember.

It's foggy, but I remember parts.  I've seen the movie a number of times, which never gets old for me.

I certainly remember Robbie Robertson and The Band who I saw live a few times.

Quite excited to have just purchased tickets to see Buddy Guy again after seeing him 30+ years ago... I'm sure he'll be every bit as good this time around.

I saw the movie back in1980 or so at Guantanamo bay at an outdoor theatre.
