Aftermarket Speakers in Harley Lower Fairings - Rant

<rant>

/* Objective: Add lower fairing to house aftermarket speakers on my 2018 FLTRXS */

Purchase: Fairing Lowers - Vivid Black-57100257DH ;
Discard Glove Box Enclosure ;
      /* https://www.harley-davidson.com/store/fairing-lowers */
      /* MSRP $699.95 */

Purchase: Color-Matched Boom! Fairing Lower Speaker Box-76000497DH ;
      /* https://www.harley-davidson.com/store/boom%21-fairing-lower-speaker-box */
      /* MSRP $279.95 */

Purchase: Boom! Audio Stage I Fairing Lower Speaker Kit - 76000487A ;
      /* https://www.harley-davidson.com/store/boom!-audio-fairing-lower-speaker-kit?testName=Monetate-_-Endcaps-_-PAC+PDP+Bottom */
Discard Speakers;
Discard Speaker Wiring;
Discard Grills;
      /* All you really need it the Ported Tray and the Adhesive Backed Gasket */
      /* MSRP $279.95 */

      /* Total MSRP $1259.85 to create a ported mobile speaker enclosure */

      /* JM Customer Service recommended to go with the Harley Lowers and Speaker Enclosure rather than some of the Chinese knockoffs. The reasoning was that Harley had the enclosure that supported enhanced Bass performance. That is accomplished through the Ported Tray for the Speaker enclosure that can only be acquired by purchasing either the Boom Audio! Stage I or Stage II Lower Fairing Speaker Kit. All I really need is the ABS/Plastic but you can't simply buy that as a kit from Harley. That would be TOO EASY and COST EFFECTIVE (maybe)  */

Jerry, this doesn’t include high quality speakers. It’s just the enclosures. Just trying to point out the HD marketing view. You have to buy 3 products to get what you need.

With regard to helmet speakers, they all suffer because of helmet noise.

Been there - done that - got the t-shirt, wasn't worth the effort or cost, sold it all on ebay and back to having a place to store my rain pants and whatever's.
For me it was better just having speakers in the helmet.

Hawg wired stuff, speakers, amps, crossovers, fairing kits etc.

My helmet speakers do not suffer from whatever helmet noise is. Speakers in lowers are a waste unless you just want to ride thru and aggrevate a bunch of people in a crowd at idle, otherwise wind just overrides them totally.
A quality full face helmet with speakers one half inch from your ears... How can helmet noise have an effect?

I likely ride with the crappiest helmet because of my big fat noggen. 4x HJC modular. Only other helmet that ever worked for me is the 3x Shoei RF-1100 and they’re discontinued.

Ha!  I just found the 5X version of the HJC Modular.  I've been trying to find that style forever!  Tried on Shuberth, Aria, and about 3 or 4 others at Sturgis this year.

Stumbled onto the HJC at my local Honda dealer by accident.  Tried on the 4X to no avail, and was even more surprised to see the 5X.  Ordered one in red to see if I like it matching my bike...

Indecently, my 3/4 is just a 3X Z1R.

Friggin big melons!

Sorry about the threadjack!...

So how did this work out?

I actually have  a used pair of the speaker pods sitting in my garage storage in need of paint, been debating on all of this since I have to chop up the right side lower to clear the hack support bar anyway. I have a couple of damaged vented lowers that I can use to repair and repaint...

I also need to replace a damaged front fender with some other issues. all vivid black.. and I figure I'll just repaint the inner fairing vivid black while I'm there!

All while I'm doing my JM ROKKER installation... just waiting on the color matched saddlebag lids.

I just bought Metra speaker pods for my wet head lowers for $130. Joe @ Extreme Dimensions is painting them Carbon Dust for 33% cheaper than what a bike shop quoted for Vivid Black. And as anyone on here can tell you Joe's work is spot on.
