High Volume oil pump!
« on: December 10, 2017, 09:51:07 AM »

2017 CVO Limited.   I’m fixing to put Fullsac xpipe, TTS and and Harley Tourque cams.  I hear a lot about dry sumping in the 117 upgrade. Should install the high volume oil pump on this setup or is it not needed?

What’s a “torque tuner”?  No need to change pump.

Changing the oil pump without knowing if you actually have a problem might be a bad move.  Until Harley actually fixes whatever is causing the sumping issues, as opposed to "try this and see if it works", you might be inviting problems.

The oil pump issues on the M8 haven't just been about sumping with 117 kits btw.  They've had low/no oil pressure issues on stock bikes, and I've read a few posts indicating a sumping problem on bikes without the 117 kit.  When was your bike actually built (should be a month and year on the certification label on the frame if you don't have the actual date).  If it was built early in the model year I would expect a higher probability of a bad pump versus a unit built late in the model year.

My experience with big inch EVO sumping was an issue with the crankcase breather port shape that affects the timing and pressure in the bottom end.  I suppose it may be a similar issue of too much pressure in the cases with the larger motors.
