2015 FLHXSE Front Axle instll
« on: January 21, 2018, 08:38:08 PM »

I just put a new front tire/wheel on my 15 FLHXSE and I can't get my front axle in to save my life. The FLHXSE does not have the fork cap on the right side like other Harleys and I can't seem to get the right bottom of the fork split open enough to push the biggest part of the axle in. I searched but couldn't find a similar thread, has anyone else encountered this and what did you do?

Thank you,

Never tried it but if it came out I'd think it'd have to go back in.  Maybe try tapping it in gently with a dead blow hammer.  Ensure everything is lined up.

Yeah, I've tried rubber mallet, etc and all appears aligned, just won't go. Thanks

If you think spreading the split needs to be done than I would use a few putty knifes, installing the next one between the first 2.
Start with cleaning any corrosion build up from that axle and applying
Antiseize.
You may also be able to tap a small flat blade screw driver between the putty knives.
This procedure will help if everything is being reassembled in the proper procedure. You shouldn't need to spread the gap very much.

As Joel mentioned, it would be best to not pry directly on the easily damaged part, but rather use a couple putty knives to protect the metal and then pry between them.  Go easy, don't open it up any more than necessary to smoothly slide the axle in.
