Vance and Hines FP3
« on: February 04, 2018, 08:18:22 AM »

Can anyone shed some light on confusion I am having with fitment on the V&H FP3. Several distributors say p/n 66007 “will not fit CVO” and some say will fit. What the ??? :'(

"Fitment" is misleading, something like this will "fit" any model with the right connection.  What they probably meant on those sites that said it didn't fit CVO's was that at the time they didn't have base maps set up for CVO models.  A good base map is critical, even with so-called "auto tune" devices.

Try this site, they have an extensive listing of covered models and yes they do list all the 2014 and later CVO's.

My suggestion with any question like this is to always call the MANUFACTURER. In this case Vance & Hines. NO one else knows more about the product and fitment.

2010 FLHXSE

Looking through the list of covered years and models, it appears they are all CAN bus (HDLAN).  Touring models didn't get HDLAN until 2014.

I did what Vance and Hines said by inputting my vin on the demo portion of the app and only 1 map came up...not worth the price for just one map.

I disagree, I had more than one map and exhaust combinations. I think you should give them a call.

Whatever, I did what they said when on phone with the them and only one map came up, only year that is vin specific for the build date in 2010. I don’t think they would try to NOT sell me one.

IF you check the Vance & Hines catalog the older bikes take a different model of controller than the "Rushmore" bikes. CANBUS only on the FP3 and 2010 to my knowledge is not CANBUS.
You can bet if it would work, and they had maps for it, they would gladly Sell you a unit, think folks who say they are using one do not have the FP3, they have a earlier model controller and unless I'm incorrect the original question was regarding a FP3.

The FP3 does come in two versions, one for HDLAN and one for the older SAE J1850 connector that covers 2007 through 2013 Touring models.  As long as the customer orders the right connection type for his particular bike it will work.  The fact that it will fit the bike connection wise still doesn't mean they have maps for your combination however.  As is the case with most companies in this business, the priorities are to develop maps for the newest models first. Considering how many possible equipment combinations are available, developing decent base maps for everything is a big task.  I'd guess if they don't have a map for an older model now, the odds of them getting around to making one are slim to none.

Thanks Jerry. I know I have one on my 2010 CVO and it has different application maps. I don’t understand the confusion.

I ran into this with my 2018 cvo flhxse  the dealer had sold me the 66007.. before i unwrapped it i looked at the product line at V&H and it was the wrong part The 66005 is the right FP3 for this bike. Clearly stated on the V&H web site . I called the dealer and took it back and they have the right part on order.. Whew..

That's a pretty rookie mistake!   I would be wary of that dealer in the future!    Could have stuck you with an expensive piece had you opened it...
