dyno tuning sert advice
« on: October 25, 2007, 04:57:24 PM »

I had the bike dyno tuned with supertrapp se slip ons and the screamin eagle stage one breather and SERT.  When I asked the guy doing the tuning if he had balanced the front and rear cylinders told me that since I had chosen slip on mufflers with the stock head pipes it was not possible to get an accurate air/fuel ratio reading on the rear cylinder since the exhaust gas analyzer tube would not necessarily stop at the rear cylinder exhaust port.  So basically what he did was any change he made to the front cylinder he also made to the rear.  The bike does have a nearly perfect straight line a/f ratio line from 2000 to 6000 rpm of 13.15  but it still seems to run damn hot.  So does anybody have an opinion on if this is an ok situation?????????????????????????  btw it made around 87 hp and 105 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheel...

Very similar numbers to my SERK with the V&H Duals and ovals.

Are you familiar with Dr. Dyno in CT?   Does he tune with SERT now?

The tuner was telling you straight about not being able to get an accurate tune on the rear with the stock headers.  The only way would be to put a sniffer in the 02 bung for the rear...just running the standard sniffer up the exhaust will not do it.  The only problem with this method, IMO, is that the rear usually needs to be a tad richer because of it's inherent tendency to run hotter.  It would just be a guess making adjustments, but a bit of fuel could be added to the rear, across the board.  You could check your plugs after about 1K and see if there's any difference in them, and if the rear is looking lean, start adding a bit of fuel.

Sometimes it takes a whole tankful of fuel before you can think straight.
