one did not and was carbed, the other had t-max. i found the problem by making sure the swith was fully engaged, at which point the speedo would work correctly. let go of switch, let the bike vibrate a little and the problem returned.

replace the switch was my cure because of bikes belonging to customers. cost was around $50 IIRC.

you should be able to take an analog VOM and wiggle the switch in on position to see if meter sweeps some.

hoping this helps.

Rednectum,

Thanks for the tip.
The next time it happens, I'll jiggle the switch some and see if that makes a difference. From there I will use my volt/Ohm meter to follow up.

Well it's not the switch. It happened again today, and I moved the switch a little to either side. Nothing, I'm thinking it's the ECM. So I have a VM and e-mail into product support over at Zippers. We'll see if they respond.

Not the sensor and not the switch.  If for purposes of isolation you want to assume for the moment it's not any of the retrofit hardware your next likely option is the speedo itself then.  It'll cause the irregularities you describe, and others, as it goes through the process of failing.

They don't do it often.  But they can.  The behaviors match.  Is anything else not working; especially while the speedo acts up?
