Stock Fork Fluid in 09 SEUC
« on: January 22, 2009, 12:52:19 PM »

Does anybody know what fluid is in the stock 09 SEUC forks? Do they put the SE fluid in stock or do they use the standard fluid?  Can't find it in the shop manual or the supplement.  Installing the lowering kit and trying to understand what was stock.  What ride difference would I expect between the two?

Type E is stock, HD does not publish the weight but its about 7.5. The SE is about 20 and is too much in my opinion. I typically use and recommend 15 weight

To expand on that, there are two different SE fork oils.  One is approximately 20wt., and the heavy duty racing only stuff is closer to 30wt.  In my opinion, both are too heavy for a stock Harley damping system.  hd-dude has the right answer, find a good 15wt. from one of the aftermarket suppliers.  If you aren't sure where to find it, stop by any shop that sells or works on dirt bikes.  PJ1, Silkolene, BelRay, etc. are some brand names.

I just looked up the "recommended" service on the website for my '09.  H-D lists the front fork oil to be replaced at just 5000 miles.  Does that seem right??     In the past I haven't touched the forks until 25k or so but its entirely possible that I've just missed that maintenance item...

AT 5,000 MILES / 8,000 KILOMETERS

ITEM SERVICED PROCEDURE NOTES

  Front fork oil   Replace 1,2

What does evyone else here do?

Cheers!

Your service manual must be very different from mine. I read it to say that the replacement interval is 50.000 miles rather than 5000. While I think 50,000 seems much to long, 5000 seems rediculous also. I've ususally serviced the front forks at 20,000 miles.

Hope this helps
