Aldan shock adjustment
« on: February 08, 2009, 09:11:02 AM »

Have some Aldan 13" shocks & was wondering which way you turn the adjustment knob on shock for stiffer & softer setting. Anyone know.... I just cant seem to find that sweet spot.

Unless you weigh a bit more then 200 I don't think you will find a "sweet spot"

I tend to agree, I am just below 200 lbs. and the ride is a bit stiff. I've learned to just accept it, I expected to be able to adjust the shocks and make the ride softer but I haven't found the solution for a soft ride with the Alden shocks (and I am not willing to gain weight for a better ride).

Load up the tourpak and bags or add a passenger is the only way I found

I weigh 170.... the ride on my bike is way too stiff.  I rode across Oklahoma City yesterday on the crosstown expressway... roughest road you can imagine (fortunately, it is being replaced).  Nearly beat me to death... actually made my back and sides hurt.

Mine is not bad on good roads, but I have to brace myself on rough roads and bridges.  The main function of suspension on any vehicle is to keep the tire in contact with the road.  On a motorcycle an additional function of the suspension to to keep the rider in contact with the seat.  I am coming close to getting bounced up off the seat on really hard bumps.

My bike rides much better two-up.  My wife and I both probably weigh a little over 300... makes a big difference.  Only problem is that about 50% of the time I am riding solo.

Really like the height adjustability of the Arnott system, but I'm thinking about switching to different rear shocks.

Ditto.

Of course the roads in TX are better than in OK, but irregardless of that fact, the Aldans, without a load are a bit stiff.  The adjustability is great, but I am not sure how long my back can take the beating when riding by myself.

On the Aldans,
Clockwise makes them stiffer,
counter makes them softer.

Mine are great.

But that probably means I need to diet!

Damn!
