This is a "how-to" install for the Hawg-Wired "Four in the Face" system on a 2010 SE Ultra. There has been talk about the added difficulty on the 2010 SE models to do the install as Harley has eliminated the overlay harness that was on the previous  (06-09) SE Ultras. The first step is to remove the tourpack and the Harmon Kardon amp that is mounted under the tourpack. What we found was that Harley still uses part of the overlay harness in the fairing. The tail section of the overlay is what is integrated into the SE Ultra harness.

The first pic is of the fairing and the overlay harness exposed.

This picture shows the left side. What HD does is send the non-amplified signal back to the amplifier, amplifies it, then sends is back to the front speakers. The rear speakers are fed directly from the amp and the system uses software to control the rear channels. In a non-SE bike the non amplified radio speaker leads would connect direclty to the speakers.

To make room for the HW amps the lock transmitter needs to be relocated as shown. The bracket from the tranmitter need to be removed as well.

On the left side the garage door transmitter needs to be relocated as well.

Next the DX Series Speakers. The horizontal fairing support bracket can either be removed or slightly bent to clear the speaker magnet.

The DX Crossover will mount neatly under the GPS and Xm antenna brackets. These can go anywhere where there is real estate.

Next the main amp on top of the radio. It is important that the amp be installed just to the right so that the terminals on the back side are sitting right up against the speedo. Before mounting the amp you will want to connect the two control cables and the front speakers leads to the backside of the amp.

Now we mount the satelite amp brackets to the fairing supports. These mount to a pre-tapped 10-24 hole in the bracket. If you elect to remove the bracket these can mount to the 1/4-20 hole that held the bracket to the fairing upright support.

Now we get to the wiring.....first is the input to the new amp. For this we use the high level input cable and connect it to the non-amplified radio speaker leads. This shows the left and right connection. The cable comes pre-terminated with male spade lugs to connect to the factory wires

For the rear speakers you need to add pins into the plug on the back of the radio. Harley does not have any wires coming out of these point as the rear speakers are connected directly to the amp. On non-CVO models and pre-10 models the wires will be in place. For this application we are not amplifing the rear speakers. The four channels of amplification will power the fairing speakers and the speakers in the fairing lowers. The power from the radio will power the rear speakers when the tourpack is on.

To do this I removed the pins front the connector at the amp with about six inches of wire on them. I will use the spare wires that are left over that went back to the rear amp to connect to the rear speakers.

This shows where to depress the releases and the collar in the pin release / install position. To remove the pins from the connector you need to depress the black tabs and lift the red collar as shown. It is important not to lift it too high off the connector as it is a bitch to get back on.

When the collar is in the release position you can then remove the wires and sockets from the connector. I cut off about 6 inches of the rear speaker outputs wire from the rear amplifier plug to install into the radio plug at the for the rear outputs. Here is the back of the plug at the radio.

Color code used by Harley for the rear channels @ the radio is as follows:

Left (+), Brown, Pin 2
Left (-), White / Brown Pin 25
Right (+), Green, Pin 3
Right (-), Lt. Green / Brown, Pin 24

I used the rear wires as i wanted to have the color code the same as the factory.

The wires are now installed into the plug at the back of the radio.

Now, the harness that went back to the rear amp has several conductors left over that are unused. We are going to use two if the pairs of wires to connect to the new wires just installed into the rear channel outputs of the radio. For this I chose the front channel wires that were coming back from the amplifier. These are the factory front speaker wire color codes and are the non-twisted pairs in the harness. I cut off the excess cables and isolated the wires I am using for the rear speakers.

Connect them up at this end then we will make the same connection at the rear.

Connections are soldered and heat shrink is applied. Don't forget to put the heat shrink tubing on before you solder.

The rest of the unused wires in the harness are safed off and tucked back into the plastic tubing.

Now onto the rear to make the final connections there. What we have done is connected the rear speaker outputs from the radio to unused wires in the harness going back to the old amp. Now we need to connect the wires we are using to the rear speaker leads at the amp harness.

Here you see the rear amp harness with the plug removed and the plastic sleeve removed.

What i have done here is connected the rear speaker leads that go to the pods to the wires that i connected to the rear outputs up at the radio. I also shortened up and safed off the unused wires in the harness. This will make the bundle under the seat smaller when the tourpack is off.

That's it! This project is really not that difficult. A few connections to make and your good to go! Also If you were going to use the 4 channel amp to run the front and rear speakers the wiring would be similiar. I can help anyone out with that application as well.

Is it necessary for the HD Digital Technician to turn "on" the fader control to provide an output signal to the rear speakers?  I ask because I recently added fairing lower speakers using the rear speaker outputs to provide the signal to those speakers and the dealer used the Digital Technician to "tell" the HK head unit that there were four speakers and "voila," I had a "Fader" function on the audio menu.

In this application No as it already had a 4 speaker system. For a SESG or Road Glide you would need to have the radio programmed to turn the rear outputs on.

You could just use the amp in 2-channel input mode and be able to have all four channels running. You would not have fade from upper to lower though.

What bugs me is why do we have to " UP GRADE" a so called premium sound system... when will HD step up and give the CVO's everything it
deserves.... When you buy a loaded vehicle it should be loaded...don't ya think

All I want to do is just add the Hawg-Wired "new" DX speakers (just the two in the fairing) and amp and I believe there is a couple other little parts that go with this install. I don't think it would be as complicated as the SEUC project was. And I'm wondering if I would need the or could use the XM satellite antenna on the SESG. I don't think our radios have the capability to go with XM.

DickW and i just finished installing the AMP and SPEAKERS, you sent me. All i can say is many thanks for your advice and support. when we finished the job and turned on the stereo, it totally blew me away, and everyone that was in the house, also! it was a great pleasure working with you
