Maudie's Transfusion
« on: August 13, 2006, 10:28:54 PM »

Today was first time I had ridden Ol' Maudie since her transfusion.  Trashed all the SYN-3, and and gave her 20W-50 in the Motor, RedLine Shockproof in the 6-speed, and HD Gear-Oil in the Primary.  I was amazed to find the Tranny to be.......uhm.........ah, hell, it just felt better.  Didn't quiet that noise in 4th, though.  Guess the damage was already done.  Bearing goin' down, likely.  However, I did notice more heat coming from the right side of the Motor.  I believe the SYN-3 did keep the Engine temperature cooler.  We ran long and hard today, but the weather temperature was below normal, for this time of year.  Ahh...........the sound of that Motor @ 5800 in 5th gear is.........let's see..........Euphoric!  Be a while before I get to Ride again.  I miss it, too.  Enjoyed it, Chip, Nancy, and the Big "O."  Later--HUBBARD

5800 in 5th gear on a 6 speed - - - - - - aint no flies on ole Maudie I'll bet, that's steppin along right smart there Hub    [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  Keep us up on the how you feel about the trans fluid, I like the one size fits all of the Amsoil, but everything I've read agrees with your comments on how your tranny felt with the Redline.

Gotta agree. Red Line Heavy Shock Proof. Been running it for awhile now. It does quite down your gear noise.

Hubbard what kind of 20w50 engine oil did you put in her?????

Glad you got a chance to air the ole girl out. Wish I could have made the trip. Actually we had planed the weekend up there for the race but I knew I couldn't take the drive. Actually wanted to try the new toy hauler out. Guess it will have to wait for Delmarva Bike Week.

kng103,
I can't answer that one.  My speedometer has a peg the needle rests on at 120 MPH.  The needle won't go past that speed.  The tach keeps climbing, that's all I know.  When I moved my foot off the hi-way peg, to shift into 6th, it almost blew my leg off!!  :o Later--HUBBARD

I did not believe that West Virginia had a road straight enough to go even 100 mph. Had to give it a shot myself to see how fast they were really going. Had ole Bessie up to 5200 in 5th gear and going well over 120, where the speedo quit. Still increasing speed when I had to slow down for I was comming to the end of the bridge. The only straight road to try this is the bridge form the island to the mainland "4.5 miles" where I live. I am really not sure if the feeling I had was that of exilleration or of fear. Any way you guys were rolling.

hogasm,
There ain't many in WV, that's for sure!  We were in VA, when we committed that particular dastardly deed, on I-81 South, slammin' to Bristol.  Man, it felt good!  My speedo won't go past 120.  Has a stop, or peg sticking up there, and the needle can't go past it.  Some have said, "No, it doesn't."  Believe me.  Mine does.  I was just thinking about that Ride.  Prior to yesterday, when we have ridden at excessive speeds, for miles and miles, I would have thoughts of tires blowin', or Deer jumpin' out in front of me, or the Tranny lockin' up, [smiley=oops.gif] and how bad it was gonna' hurt, before it was Curtains, for Ol' Hub.  :'( I never used to think about those things in my younger days.  Mind you, they were fleeting thoughts, not constant.  Wouldn't want you guys to think I'm crazy, or anything!  But yesterday, I had those thoughts not once!  Was only worried about the "Man", and what a cluster#### that would be at 140 MPH!  It was just one terrific day for Ridin', and one of the most enjoyable Rides I've ever had!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Must be doin' somethin' right!  Later--HUBBARD

By the way, I was in 6th gear.  Needle pegged at 120.  Never looked down again to see the RPM, but I don't think I hit the limiter (6200) before I backed off.  There really wasn't any throttle left to twist.  I just hung on and looked through my little stock windshield.  I'm still massaging the crease out of my Corbin seat.

Chip,

Since 5th in a SE 6 speed is a 1:1 ratio, 5800 rpm with stock primary, final drive, and tire would be 140.8 mph.  Throw that baby into 6th and pull 5800, and you'd be looking at approximately 158!!!  Hub, I remember making a comment about a year ago in the "top speed for a seeg" thread that it would probably take 160+ hp and balls the size of an elephants to hit 160 mph on an e-glide.  It seems you definitely have the elephant part nailed; how about the horsepower?

GRC,

I won't agrue with the math, but the wind from speed, coupled with a roll bag on the tourpak and T-bag on the passenger seat would not permit any more out of the banana.  My dyno at 6200 rev limiter recorded 165 MPH in 6th.  I hit the downhill grade at 120 on the speedo, which translates to about 110 GPS.  I just couldn't get anymore out of it with my build.

Now if I had Grover's or Hubbard's builds, I don't think I would have the stains cleaned out of the seat yet.

The fairing really limits the top end capability, and handling.

The short straight stretches in WVa is why we have very fast motorcycles.
