Rinehart True Duel or 2 into 1?
« on: August 17, 2006, 10:47:06 PM »

We have a RK with Bub's True Duels and a 95" kit. Used to run duel system with SE slip ons. When I swithched to the Bub's system I lost a little low end but gained more Hp and more Tq. Very happy with the True Duels!

My question is... what are the hit and misses of a 2 into 1 system? I guess all that I know about it is that the 2 into 1 makes more tourqe.

My plan is to build a 95+" kit in our new 2006 Ultra Classic. Would like some imput on the 2 into 1 system or other manufactures.

Thanks for your help!

Generally speaking most all 2-1 systems will produce more torque across the rpm range. They will suffer a bit in top HP.

The new Rinehart 2-1 is a very well made nice looking pipe but it is loud! I recently put one on a 100" S&S 4x4 Evo type motor. Performance was good but for a touring bike I think it would be too loud. (and that's coming from someone that loves loud pipes)

The other option is the tried and true Thunder header. Great looks & performance but also on the loud side.

I have heard (but have no personal expirience) that the supertrapp 2-1 performs well and is not too loud.

For me personally I will stick with the true duals on a bagger.

Tommy O,

If you decide to stay with a True Dual System and are looking at the Rhineharts.

I have a complete set of Freedom Cycle True Duals c/w heat sheilds etc., with apprx. 2,500 - 3,000 mile on them in excellent condition for $575.00, you pay freight, Pipes are in Phoenix.

Went with the JIMs 120 Engine and a 2:1 V&H Pro Pipe. Original tuning & Dyno showed HP & TQ decrease with the True Duals.

Pete,
Can't wait to see/hear them at MV. I'm beginning to like (accept) the 2 into 1 look more and more on baggers. Coming from a V&H 2 into 1 on my previous bike I always liked the look, sound, and performance. It was just hard for me to get past that look on a bagger at first.

Likewise on MV.  Since we are both running the 575 cams, it will be interesting to compare notes.  I love those cams!

D&D Fat Cats!!!  Go with the touring baffle and if the balanced,true-duals look bothers you, then put on the falsie.  Same price as if you did the Rinehart duals.

Sound with the FatCats is nice on a tourer, deeper than VH Ovals.  And the engine responds great to 2-1!!  The scavenging process really wakes up the motor.

I had the same choice last year when I was putting a 95" kit in my Ultra Classic.

John S,

Those #'s are awesome! That's what I'm looking for. How did you know to run that cam? Is there more than one to choose from or is it standard in the SE kit? Do you have the SE heads with the comp. release?  I already have the Rinehart's and a power commander. Planning on a winter project for the new bike. I have a RK now with a big bore kit no heads. 85hp and 101tq.

First of all, there is no need to give up "that balanced look" with a 2 into 1 Thunderheader system.

Have to agree with John S. on the how to build only I would use the 251 cam instead of the 204 cam.  The 251 starts at 2300 and runs up with more torque generally in the riding areas.

I am not just quoting someone else here I have run these with the same heads in the bike and what I found is that the 204 comes in sooner by design of the quick closing intake, but it petered out on my ultra well before I was ready for it to and the passing on the highway left something to be desired when I had to get around someone.  That went away with the 251's.

95" produced 104 tq 100 hp all rideable and reliable.

John your Police edition looks great.

In my personal experience 251 far out runs the 204 the only draw back to them is that the heads need to be done massaged to handle the lift on the 251 while the stock heads will allow you to bolt the in.  Of course you need perfect fit or adjustable push rods.

I also went the way of the 2 into 1 with the falsie only I used the D&D's.   I await the introduction of a big bore pipe from BUB / Rinehart for the 2 into 1.
