Not the way I wanted to start out.....
« on: December 05, 2012, 03:51:41 PM »

So....when I put the deposit on the Breakout, after looking it over verrrrrrry thoroughly, I noticed a black spot on the polished part of the gas tank.  The dealer said they'd take care of it, not to worry.  Well...today I was going to finish the deal....and apparently, the black speck was under the clear, so when it was picked off, some of the clear on the tank came off with it.  Now it's the "what do you do now" game.  They have a call into Harley and they say its an automatic new tank from Gunslinger....but how long is the key.

This really takes the wind out of my sails on the deal and whole experience.  What should I do?  I could get my deposit back and order one from a local dealer as soon as the next phase comes in....whenever that may be.  As of now this dealer can't see a delivery time/date in their system, be they think it would be March at the latest.

This is just my luck....

I understand your frustration but...    Just my $.02:  If you want this bike now, take the bike subject to their written promise to get you a new tank under warranty.  Also see what concessions you can get on the deal for your inconvenience.

I had a defect in my front fender and tank. They were both replaced. It is a very easy repair and your bike will be as new when it is done.

X2... If you get it in writing that the tank will be replaced buy the bike and ride it while you waiting on the new tank.

I had the pinstripe on the rear fender that was missing about a one inch section, called the
dealer i purchase it from and they called harley and got a reference # for replacement. I
went to my local dealer and gave them the info and they ordered a new one and  i
had it in a few weeks, went smooth.

One other note is with these bikes been produced now painted parts may be available (sitting on a shelf) a lot quicker than an older model that would have to be painted fresh. You could get lucky and get a new tank in a few (3 - 4) weeks. :nixweiss:

They will get you a new tank.  Mine developed a couple of spots Nader the clear and was replaced, no questions asked.

Well....they expedited to the tank direct from gunslinger.  Becuase it was a sold, but not delivered unit, the dealer got priority on it, so basically I get the first one off the line and the dealer will have it on the bike by Friday afternoon!  I believe that the dealer paid to have it UPS red priority next day air shipped!  I can't say enough about this dealer!

Glad it worked out and your faith is restored in your dealer!  The night I got my new '04 SEEG home, chrome started peeling off the front wheel.  $h!t happens.  As long as you are taken care of, that's the main thing.

When I took delivery of my Breakout there was a small blemish on the gas tank. The dealer ordered me a replacement.
Two weeks later it arrived and was put on.
Parts are available.

Well....
They got the tank in one day!  They put the tank on and the only issue now is that they wanted the dealer to swap out the gas cap trim ring.  The service manager said he didn't want to mess with popping it off of the old tank and putting it on the new tank, so he ordered a new one that will be in on Monday.

All in all, I can't say enough about the dealer....they went waaaaaaaay above and beyond to get this situation rectified as quickly and smoothly as possible.  As soon as the trim ring is on, I'm leaving work to finalize the deal and I want it to get to my house by next weekend!  It is December in Chicago, so I probably won't be able to ride it, but I want it in my garage ASAP!

That's great news.  You don't have to leave it in the garage - as long as the roads are dry, you can ride.  Gerbing makes some great all weather electric gear.   :2vrolijk_21:

+1 on the Gerbing. Their heated jackets, pants, and gloves keep me riding down to 40 degrees or so......
