Strong winds and waves from the weekend's storm were linked yesterday to the deaths of two people, as rough weather continued to cause problems for residents and motorists from Nantucket to Portland, Maine. Because of winds gusting to more than 50 miles per hour, a tree fell on and killed a motorcyclist from Springfield while he was riding on Mill Village Road in Deerfield at 11 a.m. yesterday, police said. In North Conway, N.H., one man drowned when his kayak overturned at about 5 p.m. on Saturday on the rain-swollen Saco River, officials said. The weather observatory atop New Hampshire's Mount Washington reported sustained winds of 100 miles per hour and a gust of 114. The winds drove searchers off Lake Winnipesaukee yesterday as they tried to find the body of a man who fell off the MS Mt. Washington cruise ship during a party. The man fell over the rail around 10 p.m. Saturday during a Halloween party, Fish and Game Lieutenant Jim Goss said. Searchers working in pitch darkness, high winds, and driving rain found nothing.
