electrical plug
« on: October 11, 2009, 10:32:50 AM »

My brother came over last night to see the new scoot. On the right side, sitting on the bike, there is a capped plug attached to the right down tube by the side cover. Is this a plug for a battery tender? Does anyone know if this is a standard item on the new SESG?

Got a picture?? If it looks like a battery tender connection it might well be, but that's something your dealer probably added (some dealers do this).

If the part you're talking about is the harness and plug for a Battery Tender, it isn't standard from H-D.  Many dealerships however do install them on all the bikes during prep.  I've never really asked if they do it as a customer service thing, or if they do it to make it much easier for them to charge the batteries of all the bikes in inventory.  Could be a little of both I suppose, plus a good way to promote the sale of the H-D battery tender.

The attachment is a picture of the H-D accessory harness for the Battery Tender.  If it matches what you're talking about, you've most likely found the answer as to what it is.  Trace the wires back to the battery, if the wires go directly to the battery posts you have the definitive answer.  If the wires disappear into the main wiring harness bundle, you've found something else that probably shouldn't be hanging out in the open.

Horny Toad HD in Temple included the battery tender as part of their prep package, though I've not used it yet.

The 110 motor does seem to tax the battery on start-up.

My dealer adds this to all the Harleys he sells.
He also gives the small Battery Tender to the customer.
It's a customer service thing.

My dealer puts the BT pigtail on evey bike he sells.  My bikes are on the tender whenever they are in the garage, year round.

My 2009 serg had one when I got the bike.  Suspect dealer vs MOCO put it on.  I always keep it plugged into tender when not in use.

Mine had one and I was told that the MoCO is putting them on. There is a extra connection that we don't use on the plug. It may be for some sort of international connection...I'm not sure. It does not get in the way of our tenders. But my dealer did not put it on and my new SESG has one.

There are 2 type of connectors for HD chargers. The "Deluxe" charger has the extra connection. It's a higher amp charger than the regular battery tender. I use that heavy duty charger on my SERK, and the regular BT's on the other 4 bikes with the smaller batteries. ;)
