This site is sometimes the " tight " member of the family. I get bored to tears after 40 years of ridin with some of what goes on here. Not saying it's wrong because to each his own and it's all good. I start a thread like this sometimes just to break the boredom, make people smile, whatever. I could talk tech till you fell asleep and sometimes do get into those threads. For the most part, I just like to hang out here and be a wiseass.It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it ;)

Well, I am honored. I have never been on secret probation, let alone double secret probation before. And how was I to know the fella was a newbie, his post count did not support that theory. Before one attacks, one should know a little about the adversary. I was not attacking ronshood2000, I was just pointing out the obvious. Anyone who states they spend a lot of time in drinking establishments, but don't know the attributes of a superior beverage, is just plain not looking around. Probably drinks Bud Lite or something. Yuck! Well, at least to me. Now if you like Bud Lite - well, it looks good on you. :)

Well, I am sorry I do not know the flavor of this much recommended Makers Mark. It has to be a scotch or a whiskey and I don't drink that. MGD is a slight step above drinking pee, but I like my beer with a little flavor and color and my spirits a little sweeter. Hard habits to skip. However, I do not drink alcohol outside my home, besides the odd glass of wine with dinner. I lost my license for drinking and driving when I was like 19 - 30+ years ago, and the sting of that experience has me not drinking alcohol outside the comforts of my own home - or at least the home of the day. At MV, I had my spirit of choice in the room, but a beer I can see through has never been a favorite of mine. So the much maligned Modelo in this thread - I wanted to defend - sorry I did not know I was "attacking" a newbie, just when someone threatens me in my home area, I will fight back. Modelo Negro to be more specific, Mr. Newbie ronshood2000, I sincerely apologize if I have in any way offended you. You did offend me when you dissed my favorite malt beverage. But then again, I am not a guy. Now my husband is probably not liking the statement either that a real guy does not drink a superior product that you are just at this time not familiar with. He likes Negro Modelo too. Maybe we need to get together and a little taste education is in order so we can be on the same ground.............. so to speak. I mean I am in DSP by my peers. What will happen to me if the mods see this. I may just be banned altogether.

I hadn't heard about that and just "Google'd" it. That seems to be a "resurfacing" more so then a replacement. I think that would be for someone that didn't have as much deterioration in the hip as I did.

It saves more bone than a replacement and is a resurfacing in effect. By saving the bone it is possible that it could last a candidate the rest of their life. Looks like they can do it at a younger age with less invasive surgery and get you back on your feet quicker. Great for the next generation.

That's OK, he couldn't spell it either. I go to Key West occasionally and that's really popular there. It's actually pretty good, real strong, and if you're not paying attention, it will sneak up on you and kick your ass! ;) Hoist! 8)

I can see where that would work in younger person when it was diagnosed early. Any saving of the original joint is better then an artificial even with the advancements that have been made in replacement joints. In my case all the cartilage was gone, and the joint itself was damaged to far for this procedure. :(

I didn't say they weren't good, just foofy. Try an Amareto with tonic and a lime sometime on the beach. No one thinks it sounds good but bet you can't drink just one.

An easy mohito cocktail recipe
1.5 oz Havana Club Rum
12 fresh spearmint leaves
1/2 lime
7 oz club soda
2 tbsp. simple syrup
(or 4 tsp. sugar)
For the smoothest mohitos, gently crush mint leaves and lightly squeeze lime in a cool tall glass. Pour sweet syrup on top to cover and fill glass with ice. Add Havana Club, club soda, and stir your emerging mojito well. Garnish with a lime wedge, a few sprigs of mint, toast, sip, and enjoy mohitos.....

Mohito Recipes
By The Glass
Ingredients: (works well in an 8-10 oz tumbler)
In order of appearance)
1. Lime Juice (1 whole lime equals about 3 teaspoons) or use limejuice from
concentrate.
2. Sugar (2 heaping teaspoons)
3. Mint Leaves (freshest are the best!) You need about
4. Four to Five mint leaves per drink. (3 for mashing and 2 for garnish at the end)
5. Bicardi Limon (clear) Rum (2 oz)
6. Angostura Bitters (dash)
7. Ice
8. Club Soda (2/3 cup)
9. Straws (the green ones with the accordion top are cool)
10. A few mint leaves and one lime slice (for garnish)
Putting it all together:
1. Combine limejuice and sugar in small cup/bowl and mix up quickly. If you have a wooden spoon that works great. Then add three mint leaves and continue mixing. The key here is to press/mash the mint leaves firmly (about 30-45 seconds) in order to get the mint oil to mix in with the sugar and limejuice. (Personally, I think this is the heart of the drink and separates a good mohito
from a FANTASTIC MOHITO!)
2. Pour the contents you created in Step 1 into a glass (10 oz tumbler seems to work well) and add a dash of Angostura bitters (this is strong stuff, only a light dash or two).
3. Add 2 oz of Rum to the glass. Stir well
4. Add ices (cubes or chipped work well, I don't prefer crushed because it melts too fast) to the glass about 1/2 to 2/3 the way up the glass.
5. Add 2/3 cup of Club Soda/Seltzer Water (fresh and bubbly, works the best. Try not to use club soda/seltzer water that has gone flat (remember our motto: The difference between a good mohito and a FANTASTIC MOHITO is in the details)
6. Add more ice to top off the drink if you need.
7. Add 1-2 leave of fresh mint as garnish on top.
8. Add slice of lime 1/8" to 1/4" thick works well.
By now you should be looking at the best mohito you have ever seen and every time you make one you will get a little better and faster. You can experiment with the amounts of min, sugar and limejuice to suit your taste but normally the amounts for rum, bitters and club soda should stay pretty constant.
Enjoy your Mohito - It will be Fantastic. To enhance the effect put on some
Cuban Jazz or Salsa music and you will float off to the islands.
Finer points of Mohito making:
1. When mashing the mint leaves with the limejuice and sugar the goal is to "press" the mint leaves enough to extract the mint oil so it will mix with the limejuice and sugar. If you "grind" the mint leaves too you will break them up a bit. This does not harm the taste in any way but you end up with little pieces of mint leaves float around at the bottom of the glass (which you might suck up through your straw). Actually, mint is good for digestion and it will not harm you to swallow a leaf or two. The main point here is "looks".
2. Bicardi Limon Rum has been consistently the best booze choice for this drink for me. If you are knocking them dead with your mohitos (using Bicardi Limon) you want to stick with that brand. I switched rums last time and people really noticed it.
3. The colder the mohito the better. Lots of ice!
4. If you keep the mint leaves in the fridge between mohito making periods they will last longer.
5. Four Sugar packets (like you get at the restaurant) roughly equals two heaping teaspoons of sugar.
By the Pitcher
Essentially it is just multiplying all ingredients (of the single glass recipe) by 4
Use a measuring cup that measures in milliliters.
1. First add lime juice to the 75 ML line
2. Then add sugar (to same cup) until it brings the mixture up to the 125 ML line.
3. Add (to same cup) 10 mint leave
4. Mix and press as usual.
5. Pour mixture in to normal sized pitcher.
6. Pour in 8 oz of Rum
7. Add 4 dashes of Bitters
8. Stir well
9. Add ice cubes to fill the picture about 1/2 way.
10. Add 2 and 2/3 cups Club Soda
11. Add ice to fill the rest of the pitcher up.
12. Garnish with a few mint leaves and one or two lime slices.
Serves four people very nicely..

Yes it is, and obviously I must not be that good at it! ::) I'm sorry to read about your battle with them on your wheels. Is your bike apart, waiting on them? A swap-out of a fully assembled wheel/tire package won't take too long. I'm sure you would have liked them on before the season. Don't let it get you down or keep you from riding! I hope they take care of you soon! Hoist! 8)

I that grew up in Canada, married a Southern American, spent 8 years in Europe and now live in the Capital of the South, basically can hear that the rest of you talk funny.
And you are so right about the rum. I mistakenly put the liquor tequila partnered with the lime, but it definitely rum. Good rum to boot.
Not my normal beverage of choice, but my sister-in-law in Ontario, can make a Mohito to make all bartenders blush and turn away in embarrassment. I've tried once or twice, but usually end up cheapen out and using the margarita mix instead of squeezing $20.00 worth of limes to make a pitcher of Mohitos.

Left home this morning in the middle of Tornado watch - sky dark as if it were midnight, torential rains, roads flooding, windshield wipers barely making a dent, driving 20-30 miles an hour in a 55 because of the wash effect when you went through puddles, but about 20 miles further North I drove into less clouds, reduced rain and another 10 miles North and the sky was bright blue, no clouds - a hint that it had drizzled a littel, birds singing. I guess it just depended where you were at any given moment. Jamey tried to go to the Portsmouth Naval Hospital - West of here and the trees were falling every which way but loose - he rescheduled and turned around. Sorry Q to here you have home damage. Hope you get control of it soon. Water and Fire man. Home devastators in a few moments.
