Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.

These wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

Thank you for sharing this, I have seen pictures but did not know the story.
Mr Worcester is a inspiration I hope it leaves a mark on these kids, I do not see how it would not. What a proud moment to be able to do that for the solider and their family.

We lived on Fort Myer for about 6 years.  It is between Arlington Cemetary and the Pentagon.  Before 911 the cemetary was open from the base and we used to walk in it every day, usually twice a day.  The cemetary is huge and the wreaths are indeed gorgeous.

Thanks for sharing Ernie.  Obviously a picture of some other year, it is HOT here right now.

Wreaths Across America
« Reply #8 on: December 16, 2007, 07:47:46 AM »

I did not realise that this was a nationwide event - All Wreaths Across America ceremonies nationwide will take place on Saturday, December 15th, 2007 at 12:00 noon (EST).
We met up with some of our chapter mates yesterday morning and rode with 100 of our best friends, following a donated tractor trailer loaded from stem to stern with boxes of wreaths.  The ride was police escorted and man, do those professionals really get my respect.  They really put it out there to protect us.  we rode to the Fort Harrison National Cemetery - Richmond, VA.  So many graves.  Three hundred donated wreaths.  Did not take but a few moments after a lot of great words were spoken for the wreaths to be placed and great thoughts provoked as we honored the great men and women who laid there lives down for us.  Even though the weather was in the low 30s, the pride we each felt for the small effort we expended for this wonderful event was worth any discomfort.
