No bikini peanut boilers here.  Big pot of wet peanuts on side of road usually with some guy as peanut seller.  We used to think they tasted like green beans.   Locals would get a little testy when we told 'em that.

Need a propane cooker & a big pot.

Thats why I use the hot pepper flakes and beer...It gets the dirt flavor off...Course I don't mind the taste of the Pnuts when bikini girl is selling the things...Sometimes I'll give her a tip for letting me spray suntan lotion on her...

I always thought the same thing, my parents loved them, when we moved north and would drive south for vacation, my dad would have to stop at the first place he saw selling boiled peanuts.

It is an acquired taste.  If I know they are clean, I eat the shells & all but only until I get a salt overload.  Was raised on dry roasted peanuts.  Like to eat shells & all on them too, until salt palpitations set in.  ;D

Eat 'em daily.  When I cook 'em it's a propane burner, 5 gallon pot of boiling water with sea salt, 1 habanero pepper, 2 sliced jalapeno's and a 6'er of the chittiest cheap beer you can find...... :P

Took them off and now letting them cool and soak up the salt and spices that I put in.  They taste great now but in 3 hrs. they will be super.  I'll probably let some sit overnight too.

I can't believe I missed this. I could have told you my secret: ice!. Yup, ice. After you take them off the heat, dump ice into the pot. It makes the peanuts absorb the salt more! Yummy! And this is coming from a Yankee!

A real 'redneck' taught me that little trick. Told me I had to keep it a secret, so don't tell anybody I told you.

Nobody reads my posts, so your redneck secret is safe with me.   :2vrolijk_21:

I can't believe I missed this. I could have told you my secret: ice!. Yup, ice. After you take them off the heat, dump ice into the pot. It makes the peanuts absorb the salt more! Yummy! And this is coming from a Yankee!

You have never had a boiled peanut?  Are you serious?

Remember the U-Pick strawberry place we used as a landmark to steer you onto 9 and then 31 past MB?  That farm place has really good boiled peanuts...if I had only known!  Would have made Good Howie stop you and enjoy an amazing treat!

You have to have patience when salting peanuts.  It's like smoking a piece of meat, sex on the beach, a fine bottle of wine.  The slower the better when cooling.  Most of us can't wait.  I didn't know you knew anything about peanuts.

A couple of times have tried boiled peanuts in a can.  Yuck.  Yuck.  Awful, just plain awful.  But the folks that brought the can of wet soggy goobers seemed to like 'em ok that way & slurped 'em up like snails without a shell.  Yuck.  Do not recommend the canned variety.

Just in case there is a shelf or 2 of these slick goobers in the heart of NYC  :nixweiss:  wanted to warn you away from them Howie.

Now what probably will follow this post will be other posts extolling the virtues of cans of boiled peanuts, by brand preference.  Yuck!

This was my breakfast in SC on the way to FLA back in March.  You don't have to be a red neck to like spicy pig skin!

Never had boiled peanuts.  I always assumed, like most yankees, that dry roasted was the only way to serve them.  I've seen signs for boiled peanuts in the south but thought the folks that bought them took them home to finish the roasting.  WTH do I know?

The Colombian chiccarone looks like a side of bacon cut about 2 inches thick sliced across the grain and then deep fried...Chewy and yummy...Find a colombian place up there, they'll have it...

Sean, We can get green peanuts (raw) in the grocery store (produce section) or sometimes at local produce markets.  Not sure how close this guy is to you: http://www.boilednut.com/  Suggest checking with a large local produce stand & if they don't have them, bet they could direct you to one that does.

Sean,
SC may be your closest place because peanuts need a drier climate to grow in Unless you get lucky and see a local vendor on the side of the road selling fresh veggies and stuff thst might have some.

You ever go to the Dothan Peanut Festival?

Here's a link:

To cool 'em down quicker, add ice or cold water.   Better to just let 'em soak.

You can add a variety of pepper or hot sauce or all kinds of stuff to them.

Worth a stop - as is La Luna if they are still around.  The Padron store is a must also for the Padronites amongst us.  They have some special smokes that are only sold there, good CHIT!

AJ,

Apparently Hoist doesn't realize theres a fine but definite line between rednecks and hillbillies. You won't find a lot of boiled peanuts around the mountains but we can certainly hook him up with a fatback biscuit or maybe a livermush biscuit (my personal favorite).

Hoist, You CAN buy boiled peanuts in MV.  When you leave MV going to Cherokee there's an old store on the right just out of MV that sells um.  Not near as good as what I make, but OK.

If someone trailering to MV in September will bring a cooker and LARGE pot (not cast iron), I'll bring the green peanuts.  Nothing better with cold beer than hot boiled peanuts.  Pretty good with Makers Mark also!

You ever go to the Dothan Peanut Festival?

Here's a link:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/low-country-boiled-peanuts-recipe2/index.html?rsrc=like

To cool 'em down quicker, add ice or cold water.   Better to just let 'em soak.

You can add a variety of pepper or hot sauce or all kinds of stuff to them.

no, and doubt i will. i like to stay in the country. peanut festival is like a state fair. i was looking for someone to teach me how to cook em----all i have to do is walk 100 ft and pull all i want for free.

  • Get a big Pot
  • Put in 2 or 3 pounds of peanuts
  • Add enough water to cover the nuts
  • Start with a cup of salt and add more if it's not salty enough for your tastes.
  • Bring them up to a gentle boil and let them go for about 6 to 12 hours. If they're not wet and soft inside, yep, just like that, boil them some more.

Like building Howie's motor, it ain't rocket science, but it shouldn't take you three times to get it right either.  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

All you guys have to talk about is eating goobers?

WTH! Is it too hot to ride?

And Howie, you generally gotta git down to alafriggingbama or Georgia to get boiled peanuts. Those boys down there don't know the civil war is over yet. I'm damn near a yankee to them. Kentucky was neutral during the war. Kentuckians were the type that would smile, offer you a drink, and help you across the river, Rebel or Yankee, then steal your horse and boots after you were drunk on our moonshine.

AJ,

Apparently Hoist doesn't realize theres a fine but definite line between rednecks and hillbillies. You won't find a lot of boiled peanuts around the mountains but we can certainly hook him up with a fatback biscuit or maybe a livermush biscuit (my personal favorite).

Muley

Joel, they just don't know the difference.  ;D After living here awhile I find it funny how people refer to "the Carolina's". It's night and day. You've got your toothless wonders in both states but that's 'bout it. Upthar is hillbillies in dem mountains and down here are's the rednecks (& the Gullah folk).

Since I am so damn broke still having so much fun adding stuff to the 07, my interest in the 09's is only as a curiosity.  Don't know enough about them yet to start poking at the engineering flaws in them noticing any problems they probably have, so find myself posting about BOILING PEANUTS on this forum.

Learned why my stuff goes missing when I ride through Kentucky, finally, thanks to Ken.  Already ride with a guy who is wanted in TN so he detours around that state.  Now we will need to detour around Kentucky also, unless we pack crap in our saddlebags we are planning to throw away & the folks in KY are kind enough to "steal" it from us.  ;D

And what's the "Gullah folk?"   :nixweiss:

Mike, in TN & KY you have those hillbillies Muley was talking about. Ever notice how the TV show Cops is always "filmed on location" there?

The Gullah folk (no disrespect intended) refers to a culture of people here in the South of freed slaves. They live predominantly here on the sea islands. Just a little morning education.

You ever go to the Dothan Peanut Festival?

Here's a link:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/low-country-boiled-peanuts-recipe2/index.html?rsrc=like

To cool 'em down quicker, add ice or cold water.   Better to just let 'em soak.

You can add a variety of pepper or hot sauce or all kinds of stuff to them.

Used to live in Enterprise Al. Been to the peanut festival and got a big hot bag of bolled peanuts first thing they were cooking em up in a big kettle. Great with beer yummmmm. Word to wise do not buy them out of a fridge in a convenience store where I got my first ones. Yuk. Fresh and hot is the best.

AJ,

Noticed that COPS is filmed there.  And its filmed in Florida in some trailer parks & around the Dallas area too.  Hillbillies/rednecks are all over.  Even in some parts of yankeeland.  ;D

Thanks for the info on the Gullah - never knew what that referred to.  Seminoles in Florida were in part freed slaves as well, if I remember correctly.

Area outside of Orlando is very fertile ground for COPS.  Wonder if I bought some land & developed it as "Crack Ho Trailer Emporium" if it would go over good?  Manager would be subject to  temptation to collect skin rent instead of $$.

We always get a kick out of the number of segments of the police video shows that are on I-75 in Lowndes county, GA. That's the first county over the state line from FL. Talk about a drug pipeline.

There does tend to be a direct correlation between getting arrested on TV and not wearing a shirt.

I always wear a shirt in South Georgia so I won't get arrested and wind up on TV in cuffs.

There does tend to be a direct correlation between getting arrested on TV and not wearing a shirt.

I always wear a shirt in South Georgia so I won't get arrested and wind up on TV in cuffs.

:indian_chief:

Good idea, as long as it's not a white wife beater undershirt.  Noticed years ago the tv cop show/guy in white undershirt getting arrested correlation.  Rarely watched them, but when I did, some guy in a dirty white undershirt was getting cuffed.

Most folks that now live in Georgia are transplants from some other state so that's debatable!!  There's hillbillies in every state and I was surprised to find that there are more rednecks in Maryland, Northern VA, and PA than in the South!  One neighbor had a club membership complete with a golf-cart with a rebel flag painted on top!  Cracked me up!

And if you want to hear something really funny, and completely unrelated, you should have heard my 5-year-old just walk in and start singing Bob Seger, "...come to Poppa, come to your Poppa."  I think I need to go change CD's or something!  How am I gonna explain that to his teacher????

Yea, when we went to Watkins Glen, I saw quite a few toothless families that make the Waffle House waitresses look "uptown!"
And what is up with all those houses that have been made into "member only" clubs along the highway close to Watkins Glen?  Strange!

Place was crowded - food was good - view was even better.  Mrs. Iski & I watched a shrimp boat while we ate lunch.

Peanuts are like candy around here went in to town this morning bought 2lbs fresh boiled they lasted about 15 min when i got home. Speaking of redneck southern towns there are a few around here Esom Hill Ga,Felton GA you can still get just about anything you want. Chit you cant even get the Law to go out to alot of these places. Hell there are some around here that wear the Dixie Outfitter stuff they think that makes them bad azz.

Left the decent camera at home, Howie.  Today it was rainy.

Here is a pic from their website on a non rainy day - unobstructed view of the Atlantic - right on the beach in Flagler, Florida.

I also have a pic of this - not from Snack Jacks but it's a pic of another map that is like the other map, only different:

There we go with that "Carolina" thang again. South Carolina does not have a hockey team. We don't even know what hockey is down here. If you want to see a couple of guys fighting, wait til 2am on a Saturday night outside any bar here. And South Carolina does not have a professional football team. Well, yes we do but they play in Columbia and wear garnet and black. They tell me that there's some other team up north that wears orange but nobody ever watches them  ;D. As far as the team that plays in Charlotte, that's North Carolina. Look, I'm from NY, I had to learn all this the hard way.

Great views & great road, AJ!  Will look forward to it.

My BSR & I were just offered a condo on the beach by friends in Daytona for Biketoberfest, so her attitude about attending rallies is now switching back to "yeah, that sounds like fun."   Good chance we will be there then & likely for DB Bike Week as well.  Would make a great lunch destination ride from Daytona?

Only in SC though, fans of NCAA football walk around with shirts that say "GO COCKS."

yeah, go figure...and they are proud to wear it.   :nixweiss:

Ok. let me explain for those of you who are a little slow or those who have had the Sun beat down on your head too long from wearing a cropped haircut:
... South Carolina does have a professional football team... they play in Columbia and wear garnet and black.

Remember, cocks are for fighting, tigers belong in zoos.
And I'll bring the boiled p-nuts.
GO COCKS!

That's one of those games we play just to get the TV money. We know we're gonna lose but 1) there's always a possibility and 2) the royalties from TV pay for Spurier's salary.

Used to love him, now I hate him  :sauer005:, I value loyalty above most character traits - he has none.

the only way we here here at UT could find a way to beat Spurier was to get him to go SC. We told him that he could make LOTS of peanuts there!
