The Ultimate Place to Live?
« on: November 17, 2008, 11:41:52 AM »

OK, this is like show us your ride!!  Make a case for this... I want to move to the best place to live / retire.  I want to fish, golf, and ride, ride ride.  I have the riding and golf in California but Kaly has become quite crowded and very expensive.  Thanks everyone...

There's a lot of Cali that isn't densely populated but still has great weather and riding.  Sierra foothills?

The Lowcountry of South Carolina! We have it all, only snows twice every 50 years. Lots of fishing, hunting ( longest deer season in the country ), golf ( over 100 courses ), riding all year long.
Come on down.

Oregon is out of the running if you are a fair weather rider. If you aren't willing to get wet every so often you just might miss out on the riding season here. Gortex is our friend and if you have the right gear the weather isn't much of an issue for any outdoor sport.

I'd like to personally advise that Custer, SD is the last place in the world that you'd like to live.   ;)

Crescent Beach Florida...  Far enough north you can head up to other states, far enough north that you are away from Daytona and Orlando for the most part...  Far enough south its warm most of the year, and cold is really not that cold.

Golf all over the place, fishing in abundance, and you can head to the Smokies in NC for trout (or the blue ridge for the same).

That's where I will be retiring to - and the other house in Luray or thereabouts...with about 5 acres, and I can toss cans in the front yard and shoot at them with nobody complaining, leave when the flurries start, come back when the daffodils are up.

my slice of heaven

Ontario Canada if you like snow, cold, high taxes, high gas prices, high cost of living and a short riding season. THE Muffman

I'ld agree with northern Arizona. The fishing is probably weak but riding and golfing are great and the scenery is tough to beat! Have a friend in Sedona and it is just lovely there. Convenient to get to Phoenix if you want city stuff and golf out the wazoo. Also close to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Snow skiing most winters (my brother-in-law manages the ski mountain outside of Flagstaff) and unbelieveable riding opportunities. You can still find some reasonably priced (by California standards) real estate as well.
