When did you first realize you were OLD!
« on: December 24, 2012, 12:04:50 AM »

I'm 49, will be 50 next May. I've never thought of myself as old, or even middle age.  Im still in pretty good shape, have all my own hair with only a few grey ones and im only 20lbs over where i was in my 20's. Sure I've got aches and pains, can't climb a flight of stairs without my knees and ankles cracking and snapping like a bowl of rice crispies. I never thought I was old.......until last summer. I was at the beach with my kids. My 15 year old was reading twilight. I picked up the book and started to look through it. Not a bad story so I started to read it. Shorty after a group of teenagers were walking past me. I heard one of them say "look at the old guy reading Twilight". I looked around me to see who she was talking about when I realized it was me, I was the old guy.  Haven't been the same since, now that I am old.
How about the rest of you, when did you realize you were old?

I earned every cranky joint, misaligned back widget, a few scars and other scattered debris.  Hope I get more.  Screw old.  :drink: :pineapple:

A few years ago a buddy asked me to go dirt biking with him ... hadn't done that for over 20 years at the time. He puts me on an '01 CR 500 thats like a missle on two wheels ... never rode a 500 prior to that, I had the time of my life that day ... what a blast! We rode hard all day being the first to get there and last to leave. Once I got warmed up he was amazed he couldn't keep up with me, lol ... I guess I never lost my touch after all those years. I paid dearly for all that fun the next morning when I tried to get out of bed ... I barely could! Every muscle and bone ached throughout my whole body ... I was only 39 then (42 now) but felt more like 69.

It hit home for me last July. The firm I work for particepates against about 10 other competitive firms, each yr. we get together at a go-cart track and have a race off. It's all up &up all drivers are sat down and briefed on doe's & don'ts on the 2.75 Mi track. The race is on a team rotation of 2 laps each x4 witch is 3 to 4 each diver ,depending how fast we get around the cores. Well my wife asked (your not going to race this yr. are you?) I reply, I am so why not!!! I'm 62 now and after that day was over it could not have been to soon. I said to the wife "I'm to dame old for this chit " she looked at me with that wife grin ( you know that one we all get that says told you so) my go-carting days are over. That I can live with out. It's my riding day that will relay heart. :nervous:

In life, the definition of old is anyone more than 15 years older than you.

So, at nearly 62, while I don't exactly consider myself old, someone younger than 47 would. Inversely, a 77 year old is old to me...at least until I get there...ha!

It's all a matter of perspective.

Old is a state of mind. The alternative is not very inviting.

Realizing I'm old ain't gonna happen. :drink:

I'm 61 and never think of myself as old. No aches or pains to speak of - yet.

Considering the alternative I don't mind being old. It is a privilege denied to many. My father-in-law is 97 1/2 and still gets around. Hope I make it as well as he.

Age is only a number. It's what's in your heart and your head. I'm 65 and had heart surgery 6 years ago, and I feel great. Yeah I have aches and pains. I'm good every day I can wake up, look up and not see pine, and get on my Harley and ride!

What is "Old"?  :nixweiss:
If I had to describe old, I would say "old" is when you require the assistance of others to manage your daily activates.
So far I do not require this assistance, therefore I would say I am not yet old.
