New 2014 BMW M5
« on: October 16, 2013, 08:31:47 AM »

I bought top of line BMW and all I can say is that I love this car.

I've had a few problems though.
* The valve train components appear to be very poor quality. The dealer has installed replacement parts but its still sounds loud.
* the stereo is awesome but they have replaced the main amp 3 times now. It just seems to go out without warning.
* I've had trouble shifting and the overall drive train seems sloppy. The dealer has replaced one particular part twice now and it's looks like its doing it again.
* From a performance standpoint I had to add performance exhaust, a tuning device and have a special tuning tech do some work on it before it would run properly.
* Even after all this performance work the car still seems to run very hot.

I only have 20,000 miles on it and its been in the shop multiple times creating all sorts of headaches with getting it to the shop. Not to mention I've missed quite a few nice weekends waiting to get the car fixed.

Do you think I should sell it and buy another brand?

Oh, sorry about the post, I thought this was the M5 forum site. Hopefully your top of the line CVO's don't have these kind of issues.  :o

As about the lemon law.

Lemon law will not apply.  He has a 2014 with 20,000 miles on it?  That car just became available in June!  He drives the heck out of that car, and its not designed to be a commuter car.  This being said, the problems he is having are not typical and he should not be having those issues.  He is in a position to complain and get loud and ask for another car.  Considering the issues, it's very likely BMW would do a 'trade assist' and help get him into a new car.  Unlike MOCO, they stand behind their product, the dealer will not offer that, he has to start asking for a new car.  They will take into consideration the 20,000 miles put on the car as part of the trade assist, but he can get something done, no doubt.  The dealer or Service Manager doesn't want to deal with the paperwork, he needs to call Consumer Relations and file a complaint.

PS...lemon law applies only if the vehicle has been disabled for 30 days, however most manufacturers will opt to offer a 'replacement of collateral, or a trade assist' to avoid legal expenses.

Sorta what I was thinking, Ken.... :huepfenlol2:

....not that what's happening with his M5 is funny....just that Willy was attempting to show us all brands have problems.  If I hadn't read his title, I would'a assumed he was talking about any CVO model....which I believe was his point.... ;D

I can verify that all he is saying here is correct. I have done a trade assist from a consumer
standpoint and it is the way to go. The car should be right when it comes from the factory but once in a
while you get a car with problems. Trade for another one and I don't think you will have those issues anymore.
If you still have problems, sell the car and switch brands. In fact if you are looking for performance I know
where there is a new Nissan GTR for sale.

Humor/Sarcasm is the key element.

Like many of the posts, nobody would stand for these problems and anyone other than MOCO would not let them happen or say "they all do that".

It's amazing what we except just to own a Harley.  :)

I've owned BMW cars before and I love them.  They are a fantastic drivers car - but the reliability just isn't good any more.  When I buy my next car - and it will be a sports sedan or coupe - it won't be a BMW.  The other brands are catching up in the driving experience and have long since passed them in reliability.

Yep Ken... Godzilla does rule and the GTR is the quickest and fastest car you can buy for
100k. It even has a launch mode.

I looked at the BMW, awesome for sure but chose the the baddest American SUV on the planet instead. The 2014 SRT.
392" Hemi, 470 HP, 8 speed, all wheel drive and all Mopar. I'm digging this thing a Lot.
If your serious about rolling out of the Beamer, get a test drive in one of these. About 30K less too.
Enough to get a new 2014 Limited 103.  :2vrolijk_21:

Sorry Willy, I'm an idiot, I was thinking of the X5, Beamers SUV. You bought the M5, something really baddass! Not sure what matches this in the American cars.

A CTS-V with a little work to it can bring over 700 hp and still stay under the M5 pricetag, but if I had a choice I'd go with the M5 anyway. Beautiful car.

A little forced induction can do wonders, even to the Jeep.
