For every PENNY the cost of gas goes up or down, it's a billion dollars world wide. Really puts in perspective what a huge business that is. Now if they would just allow that keystone pipeline to go through and we'd have record profits and lower prices. And more jobs

Bring in the Back hoes!

Won't ever happen. The environmentalist and the politicians whom they bribe would never allow such a crazy idea. We would rather send our wealth to the middle east oil rich countrys and fund their terroristic activities against mankind.
Was that too politically incorrect...if so I am sorry if I offended anyone...NOT!!!

Talk about timing................. Last week, I met with the President and announcement my retirement (July 2015).

I might have to re-work the numbers a little - BUT, I am still in great shape...........

But it does worry me..........

just remember, it's only a loss 'on paper'.  you don't actually lose anything unless you sell.  hopefully, by 2018 it'll be up again.

guy i worked with had a 401k.  in 2008 when the feces hit the impeller, he paniced and sold everything, taking the penalty and the additional taxes as earned income etc.  a year later, it was back up again, but he had already spent it all.

Hell, Jesse... Might as well. There are no guarantees for the future.

I'd rather spend it while I'm still young enough to enjoy it, rather than hoarding it for decades and then having to spend it all on long-term care anyway when I'm old and feeble!

I'll just move in with my daughter when I'm old, and make HER life a Living Hell!  :2vrolijk_21:

Ken I work with a guy that is 73. He doesn't have to work he's just greedy as hell. He keeps saying next year, next year. We keep telling him to get out and enjoy life before there is no next year!

I work with an older guy also. He keeps saying "next spring" but in all actuality I don't think he's going to retire. My theory is he's afraid he'll be to lonely if he retires - no wife, kids all grown up and long since moved away, and most of his friends are those of us at work.
Me I hope to ride off into the sunset eventually and never look back - as long as they don't forget to send the pension checks  :huepfenlol2:

I think he's afraid he'll die if he retires. His wife still lives with him. We joke that she doesn't want him home.

I retired May 23rd of this year. Since then I have put over 6,700 miles on my bike and 2,500 on my truck.  By the way my wife is 11 years younger and still works.  I have been elected to have the fun in the family.  Tough job but I think I'm up to it.

I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me stay at home and keep an eye on Ruby if she takes a higher level management job at Menards after the twins move out. So far she ain't having it LOL! I just want some quality time with the CVO.

I told my daughter before she got married, to marry a wealthy man so that when I got old, I would come live with them and she could take of me.
She said, No way Pop, you're goin' to the Home.

I'm 62 so I've only got about 3 more years,
hence forth the purchase desire of the 2018

this happened before, about 4 years ago?
said to hell with this and took out enough to go buy a 3 year old Shelby GT500 low miler!

just got thru paying the excess tax fee on that one this month!

the kids can tend for themselves,
I want to talk it all with me!

there's hope thou, Friday's are typically a down day and they are up a smiggun!
false hope I'm sure

Attaboy! We told our kids they aren't inheriting anything either. Neither me nor my wife inherited a dime, and we've done okay for ourselves through hard work for decades. I have always been of the mindset that things you have to work for, you value… whereas things you are just given, you don't value.

Nice to see that Mr. Market is FINALLY back in somewhat of a good mood today! Today, we've made back about 15% of what we have LOST in the last 3 weeks in our IRAs and 401ks...  :-\. Hey, it's a start!

So far for a Friday it is good! I don't get how in todays world bonds, metals and the market can now all seem tied together??

I retired over two years ago and last year I was in buying a new bike when my wife received a text from our youngest asking what we were doing...response: spending your inheritance!

I don't understand how the market works these days, either. Netflix got 23% chopped off their stock price earlier this week, because they missed their revenue number, even though there still growing nicely. ISIS and the Ebola scare have turned the market on its head in the past few weeks. There's really no reason for all of the emotional selling… But that's what people start doing when they are panicked. Warren Buffett always says "be greedy when others are fearful, and be fearful when others are greedy."

I just wish I had moved to all cash a few weeks ago when the Ebola stories started happening, like I told my wife I was thinking about doing, but stupidly didn't...  :-X

Holy Crap....

@ 48, I can retire from County service as early as 55 (I'll have 32 years of service) and can look for other work to tide me over until I make 67 and can collect the rest.

We have no kids and I just realized: Why do I own a home? no one to leave it to...  :nixweiss:

My wife and I have kids. I'm siding with Ken here.  I'm not leaving squat.  They need to earn their own way.

We aren't sure why we own a home.  We think we'd love retiring and selling the house and living in a motor home!

LOL! My wife would LOVE to sell the Badger Den and live in a little place that she doesn't have to spend so much time keeping CLEAN. She would actually even like to SELL everything and go live on a sailboat in the Caribbean!

I'm not quite ready for that yet, tho...  :o

Even with crude below $90 a barrel you have to win the lottery just to pay for the fuel! Another area we are all getting screwed.

My friend has a 45 footer on his way home from Colorado dropped a valve. Close to the cost of a new CVO to replace. This is his 3rd coach in 10 years.  I have watched him lose close to $600,000.00 trading every three years.  He is in deep on this one close to 1,000,000.00. When he trades this one I'll bet he doubles his losses.  Me I can't see it, tried it upkeep on coach was way more than we  ever anticipated.  JMO.

His coach has over 500 HP two bathrooms 4 slide outs and a hell of a lot of marble and granite. I love driving it because people that pass you stare to see if its someone famous. Not.  I'm telling you they are like owning something from MoCo. They can eat a hole in your savings fast when they breakdown.  I forgot to mention he tows a 2014 black F150  Platinum when he travels. If he wants to take his bike and others he pulls a 26 foot color matched trailer with a 6 foot extended tongue. He can back it up between two other coaches traile and all using his mrrrs. The guy can drive that's for sure. Most people are in awe to see him maneuver it around.

Me I'll stick to having friends with them. Cannot afford the upkeep.

I retired last year at 48.  Everyone thinks we are crazy and going to go back to work just to have something to do, NOT.  Retirement is GREAT!  We logged around 25,000 miles this year and in Michigan, we only had about a 3 1/2 month riding season!

I say, retire young while you still have your health!

I'm aiming for 60 - only 9 years 4 months to go  ::)
I'm going to refer to it as "retirement" as I plan to be done working as hard or as much as I feel I do now, especially working out in the weather all the dang time (I work for a utility and northeastern winters really are no fun) but I'll probably still work -- part time --- just to keep myself from going crazy. Our financial adviser says we're on track and I would hope so....

My city has mandatory retirement at age 60 for public safety but I'm not going to work that long... This past July it was 31 years for me... public safety is a young man's game and "Father Time" has reaffirmed that to me. :D

Oh yes it does...Just don't do it and see what you pay  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:
That's why I'll never fully retire... as long as I'm working I don't get a "honey do" list

the more I have the pleasure of spending time on this site the more I kind of understand the group, the backgrounds, their wishes and wants

The post was just out of "oh my goss" on the market,
but it stirred many interesting comments worth watching

but still with working at 62 and no hopes of just saying that's it! for me I continue,

up at 4:50 AM every morning,
make the drive to work

open the office, dis out the daily choirs, manage the daily routine and hope to leave the office by 4 to make the 1 1/2 drive home!
and I love it

with the market good, or not!
because I know I/m one of the lucky ones!
Family, friends and joys or being alive!

Thank you King2013!
I would have been retiring next year had I stayed in the Army.  Did 6 years of active duty. Chose to go a different way.

Of course I could be dismembered or dead just as easily.

Thanks for serving, glad you made it out you deserve it.

It was made by Country Coach and is their top of the line model.  I think as I recall Country Coach is no longer in business and that in itself will hurt him when he goes to a different coach.   Funny thing is it really doesn't bother him. I wouldn't be able to sleep taking those kinds of losses.

Never heard of that brand/model. I have been told that the best/most reliable are the converted buses. Buses are made for many over the road miles mechanically and structurally where as some/most motor homes are made for occasional trips. :nixweiss:

Doubt I'll ever be in a position to find out but it's nice to dream. ;D
