Modifying 2008 FXDSE2 For 5'2" Woman
« on: August 19, 2013, 01:59:34 PM »

Bought my wife a mint condition 2008 FXDSE2 105th Anniversary. 1,700 total miles. The new Dyna replaces her 1998 Dyna.

Wife is 5'2" so some changes in the ergonomics are required before she can ride. I'll keep this thread updated.

Her 1998 Dyna with the Evolution motor started life as a FXD-Conv. Bought the bike new. Over time, true to its name "Convertible" it transformed to her "Road Queen" - floor boards, hard bags, lowered, keeping its big wind shield. Only 27,000 total miles and many other dealer installed upgrades. I'll be selling the 1998 either as now equipped, or part it out. If interested, send PM.

Image attached of my wife's 1998 DYNA-CONVerted to "Road Queen" Perfect for the petite person who wants the power and control over a big v-twin Harley. More at http://www.roadglide.org/album.php?albumid=1289&pictureid=7173

Her Road Queen preceded the Switchback. Her bike has fitted genuine unobtanium Harley-Davidson Dyna Floorboards, heal toe shifter, HD hard bags, and other items. I recall the floorboards MSRP were in the range of $700 and the handbags $1,400. The Evolution engine  has a growing popularity because home and independent mechanics can work on them without expensive electronic gear.

Some of the parts might be moved over to her 2008 Dyna FXDSE2. I am considering having the hard bags painted 105th Anniversary rootbeer, and the black bits of the floorboards chromed and then installed on the CVO.

The '98 Dyna Corbin Close won't fit on the '08 Dyna. I still have the original '98 seat so can either leave on or sell. I need to purchase a Dyna Corbin Close with back rest for the '08.

I want to buy her a HD quick release touring windshield, with the clamps.
Will it fit?
Where to buy?

Did my first 75 mile ride this morning on my wife's 2008' FXDS2 with 110 ci engine.

Awesome engine. Tons of torque.
Brakes felt a bit soft.

Handled well through the twisties.

Now I "need" one as my own.

I found this thread helpful regarding windshields that fit the FXDSE2, and saddlebags.
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=47683.0;all

Thinking of these lights on wife's similar hard bags thereby avoiding relocating the rear turn signals otherwise required with these hard bags. http://www.cyclevisions.com/index.php/cvstore/cv-products/lighting-accessories/bag-lites/bag-lites-4-lite-set-chrome-cv4507.html

I'll get my painter to match the anniversary CVO copper.

Any here that have hung saddle bags on their FXDSE ? I would appreciate any tips on how best to mount hard bags on my wife's new to her 2008 Dyna CVO. See Picts above which show her red HD hard bags. Her '98 Dyna has the original mounting and turn signal relocation. I could reuse that, but am hoping for a more elegant solution.

Still need some help. Help!

Work travel out of the country for previous three weeks. Now back and want to make my wife's bike rideable for her.

  • Bought a quick release windshield. Nice
  • Bought a Corbin Close Solo heated saddle with backrest. Very nice!
  • Need foot boards and heal-toe shifter. Please point me in the right direction on this. Her 1998 Dyna was mid control; the footboard kit I installed back then moved the controls forward but not as far forward as on he 2008. The 2008 controls are too far forward, and she wants floor boards.
  • I need guidance to install her hard bags from the 1998 Dyna onto her 2008 Dyna CVO.
Thanks

Back from international travel. Update on wife's 2008 FXDSE2 modifications.

I swapped out the floorboards from her 1998 FXD and got them installed on her '08.

Her '98 transmission case had a bolt receiver on the left top front for the floorboard. Her '08 does not. I asked around for a independent HD motorcycle mechanic with a CNC machine, who knew how to use it, was a trusted and good mechanic. Quite a list. I found one in Starke Florida, "Knuckle Draggers" http://knuckledraggerscycles.com.

I was charged a fair price for the custom design of the CNC part, and it's bolt on installation. It was cut out of stainless steel. Looks factory.

So, if you have a Dyna without the bolt receiver on the transmission case, and you want floorboards (Wyatt, HD, Switchback, ??? YMMD ) then contact Knuckle Draggers. They have the necessary part programmed into the computer connected to the CNC machine.

Photos to come. Next is to relocate her hard HD saddlebags from her '98 to het '08. Suggestions on mounting them appreciated. BTW, she LOVES her '08. Beautiful, fits, and power

You are right. Indeed,   :worthless:

So, here are some Picts.

First, the right side footboard and brake lever fit without modification; direct bolt on.

The left side was the problem. Jack, the owner of Knuckledraggers in Starke Fl, designed, cut with their CNC machine, and installed the left side footboard and heal toe shifter.

The stainless steel CNCed part is painted black, and extends from the lower frame rail with existing bolt receivers, then upward to provide a bolt receiver at the same location as on the '98 Dyna.

Wife loves it. She deserves it. Now she is saying "when are we going riding again?"
