Paint matching issue
« on: November 22, 2013, 03:25:28 PM »

Wouuld like some help from guys who have painted the orange on my 09 SERG. My paint guy who has been painting all his life is having a really hard time geet my lids to match the color on the bike. I used the paint code but it comes out to light, to dark or to much flake. It seems to change with the amount of paint, the amount of pearl and clear. Could use some help! Electric Orange

If you have a paint shop near with a paint match gun have them shoot your bike and get the formula to you.I had my body shop shoot both the orange and gray on my bike for touch up and both match perfectly. The orange came back as a Harley color but the gray came back as a Range Rover color! They mixed up both in 4 ounce bottles with brushes built in the lid for $20.00.Mother Harley wanted $57.00 for 1/2 a ounce of orange alone!

BigLew,  I am not professional painter by any means, but I have painted 4 or 5 cars and lots of motorcycles in my younger days. I noticed when I paint something, that when I apply the clear it does seem to darken it up a little like you said. I am sure your painter will get it right for you. Viewing it in the sun versus viewing in the shop is also another thought. It might look like a closer match in the sunlight.  Send us a picture in the sunlight when you are done. Good Luck. CAHDBIKER

That color has a specialty color change pearl in the top coat and everyone sprays different so he needs to check panel for color match after 1,2,or 3 coats at each time... and he also has to be using the correct formula with the correct tint/pearls etc (Exp- Car paints will only match bike paints to a degree etc)
Hope that helps-

Have Joe do it if you can.  He did a great job on my SERG yellow lowers.  Matched perfectly.

Lew, get with Chris at High Point Paint and Body, he did a great job of matching the paint on my 09.
