2017 cvo limited with 114ci water cooled M8 motor. 3, 500 miles.
Overheating started with big loss of power and then massive knocking sound and even though eimts was "active" engine was super hot (fans were spinning). black smoke coming out of pipes and then coolant leaking when I parked it (but reservoir stayed full). No temp idiot lights ever came on and oil pressure remained "OK" per info screen.
Dealer says they spoke with moco tech support and there is nothing wrong with bike and they could not find any failed parts to replace nor could they "duplicate" the problem. so..... it was probably just air in the system....and here's your bike back...trust us, everything is fine........Nice.
Anyone experiencing stuff like this on their wetheads?

Search for "sumping" on this site, a big power loss and running hot can also be caused by excessive oil in the crankcase. It's a problem that has been reported more often with the stage 4 kits, but stock engines have also had the problem. Just a thought.

about sumping.
Plenty of others.

When the wet heads were first introduced, the MoCo had problems with the coolant leaking out. A buddy had all his coolant leak out on a trip, but was still able to ride 400+ miles home on his Ultra without overheating. My point is, even if the liquid cooling fails, you've still got the air cooling functioning. As mentioned above, I'd look at sumping since it does cause overheating in the M8. It's surprising (although, not really) that the dealership wouldn't know this.

Thanks for all your input. I read the sumping threads and will inquire with dealer to see if sumping may have contributed to my issues.

Did you ever find out what's going on with your bike?
