Title: How to modify a 2010 FLSTSE fairing to a 2011 style with sound
Post by: RCFlyer on November 14, 2010, 04:01:52 PM
I started a new post, so everyone would see this in case they missed this in an older post listed below. Attached is a complete word document with pictures to modify a 2010 fairing to the 2011 style with sound with part numbers needed to purchase.  If anybody tries this, please post your results. Please verify for yourself, as I don't guarantee anything in this post. I think it is accurate and complete to the best of my knowledge with the information that I have available to me.

I got pricing.  Unless you really want to do this, it's outrageous.  I got a total of $1415.88 plus shipping form Tri-County.  That's with our discount. It doesn't look like I'm going that route.

OUCH! Is this WITH the 20% discount? That is really a bummer and way too much coin for what you get and I may look for an aftermarket solution that I can retrofit. I wonder if you can buy the entire windshield assembly and if that would be cheaper? Thanks for taking the time pricing it out.

Yes Mike, that was with the 20% discount.  I think I'm going with the Fat Boy sound system if I do anything.  I don't really like the stock fairing.  It doesn't block the wind like the Fat Boy one does.  I changed the windshield  and I still don't like the stock fairing, not looks, just the functionality of it. I even have the lower fork deflectors, which helps but it's not enough.

The stock fairing/shield makes a good summertime solution with the chrome lowers. It old get used a couple of months out of the year (and I live in San Diego). If I had bought a 2011, I would be pi$$ed about having a sound system the I can't use much.

I'm thinking about a system with the Chrome speakers mounted to the bars, this way it doesn't matter what shield I have on or I could go naked and still have tunes.

Good idea Gamma.  I was going to buy the fairing mounted ones, but the handle bar ones are probably a better choice.

Thanks for info on 2011 fairing/audio for 2010 Conv.   I just got my 2010 FLSTSE in Dec and have wondered about changing the fairing.   Guess I'll have to research the best sounding audio speakers mounted on the bars.
